Fingers crossed ladies! I hope, in the nicest way possible, that AF arrives soon for you both.

She reared her ugly, painful head last night, and has taken up camp. So I feel like !!!!!! today! Was half hour late for work, as it took me ages to get going this morning and could barely move before the Ibuprofen kicked in.

How's everyone doing in general? Still awaiting the arrival of my sister's baby. Due on Nov 9th! :D It's my B'day on Sunday too, so I am baking a choc cake tonight to bring into the office tomorrow to share with my colleagues :) Nom, nom, nom, nom.

I have to give a small presentation this afternoon too. Soooo not in the mood for that. I'd gotten really used to AF showing up on a weekend, which is so much easier to handle I feel. Oh well, tis not the end of the world, so must get my chin up!

COMP - I hope you enjoy your holiday! :D

*Waves at the lurkers* - BZ I see you!! lol

Thanks. A hot shower and ibuprofen helped to get me going. :)

I'm very lucky that my team is currently all female too, so they understand. Might have a guy join us soon though, and I'm not sure how he'll cope with all these female hormones and mood swings! :rotfl: So long as he brings us lots of chocolate (like the last one did), he'll be fine! :rotfl:

  • Hi All,

Ive been lurking for a few weeks now, you all seem like such a friendly and helpful bunch!!

Myself and my boyfriend are planning on TTC #1 around Christmas.
Ive been prescribed a higher dosage (5mg) of Folic Acid as I have Ulcerative Colitis. Ive been taking it for nearly a month.

Im trying to find out if I could take pregnacare vitamins but they have more folic acid in so I think i may then have too much (if you can actually have too much!) So I was thinking, would it be okay for me to just buy and take Vit C, D and Calcium? Do any of you guys take just a few vitamins and not the whole lot that are in Pregnacare?

    Hi and Welcome! :)

Currently, I am taking generic multivitamins as I am not yet sure when we will be able to start TTC'ing (depends on OH's work situation).

However, I beleive that Nikki (on the TTC thread) also suffers from ulcerative colitis, and as she is already TTC'ing herself, she might be able to answer your question.

She is very nice and helpful, so I'm sure she won't mind if you ask the question on the thread.

  • Hey Euro,

    Thanks for the quick reply!

Thanks also for recommending I speak to Nikki-would be ideal to be able to speak to someone who suffers with Colitis whilst TTC/pregnant. Do you think she would mind if I send her a PM?

Good luck on your TTC journey!

I am not sure. I don't think it would be a problem, but I have just posted a question about it on the other thread. So, hopefully, when she sees it she will let us know.

I don't mind a PM but not sure if I can help much!

I just take normal antenatal multivitamins and neither my obstetrician nor my gastroenterologist ever suggested in any of my pregnancies since it was diagnosed that I needed extra folic. I am fairly sure however that folic is one of those things you can't overdose on, and if you do take more than your body is comfortable with, it will let you know:

    http://www.nutritional-supplements-health-guide.com/folic-acid-overdose.html

If you are concerned though, you could always take the pregnancy multivitamin, then supplement it up to the dosage of folic your doctor has recommended by taking a less strong additional folic pill? There are other good things in prenatal vitamins which will help you ttc such as zinc which is good for fertility, and B vitamins which reduce the risk of miscarriage and can help with morning sickness.

The only other things to be aware of as far as I know are that not all the medications to control U/C are suitable in pregnancy, so you may need to change what you are taking, and if you do have a flare up while pregnant, then you do need to let your doctor know asap because baby needs extra monitoring. But if you are in remission when you conceive, you are likely to stay in remission for the whole of the pregnancy, and some doctors believe that you are more prone to have a flare immediately after delivery and that a c section might be better than a vaginal delivery in helping to prevent this. I am not sure if this is true, or why it would be, but anecdotally I had my first ever attack within 24 hours of my only vaginal delivery and was very poorly for several weeks as a result.

Good luck. I hope to have left the ttc thread by the time you join it (:D) as we all do, but am more likely still to be there
