Those who are waiting to TTC

Hi,
Just come across this thread and thought I would join in too :j
My OH and I have had the talk about thinking of trying for a baby, I am doing fixed term contract work so probably wouldn't be entitled to maternity pay. My OH earns pretty well but I would feel bad about him shelling out for everything (even though he pretty much does now because he is the traditional style man who thinks it is his role to do so no matter how much I insist)
The thing is that am at an age where the biological clock is really at a point of I want a baby now! and if I wait to get a permanent job to get maternity pay - how long could that be?
Anyway I am in the process of seriously considering coming off the pill and seeing how nature reacts.0 -

I guess it depends on the industry/company. My company offers a great maternity deal (6 months full pay + 3 months stat), but only after 2 years service.0 -

Even though you're on a fixed contract you may be entitled to SMP if you've been working there longer than 6 months at 15 weeks before baby is due. SMP is 6 weeks at 90% pay, then up to 9 months at £126ish a week. If not, I believe you can claim maternity allowance via the government, 9 months at the £126ish a week.
If you get a permanent job, you'd be entitled to SMP under the same conditions, so basically if you were working there when you got PG you'd be entitled to SMP. If they offer an enhanced maternity package, there's normally a qualifying period - for my company it's 3 years, 15 weeks before baby is due (seems to be a crucial date for some reason!)Little monkey born November 2012:jFroglet due March 20160 -
Littlemoog I think it's 15wks before the due date because that would be 25wk gestation, at which point they are viable babies and could, though not ideally, survive outside the womb
Magenta, how about ntnp?"I am indelibly stained by hope and longing" - Nuts in May0 -

Magenta, how about ntnp?
Viability is at 24 weeksIt might be because at 24 weeks about 39% of babies survive but at 25 weeks around 50% babies survive?

Think I've had my first sight of EWCM since stopping the pill! :jJust a tiny bit, so will keep an eye out for more. Hope this means I'll ovulate soon and have a shorter cycle than last time. I'm on CD20 atm, and last cycle was 50 days.Little monkey born November 2012:jFroglet due March 20160

Thanks for the replies. You've all been very helpful, I didn't know you could get maternity pay from government - I assume this would be from NI over the years!
Bigzippy - excuse my ignorance but what is ntnp?0 -

It's not trying not preventing. It's the relaxed approach, where you continue to DTD as and when you want to without tracking your cycles, no BC and just kind of see what happens.

Ladies, I'm about to do something really monumental. I'm about to change my TTC date on the first page to DECEMBER 2011!
We've decided to bring it forward a little to give my body a bit of time to adjust. We're going to do NTNP for a little while and see how we go. Importantly, DH doesn't want to know when I've had the implant taken out. He knows I've got three days booked off in December, but I haven't arranged the taking out date yet. Going to buy some folic acid today and start on that. Other than DH (and possibly my best friend) you ladies are the only ones who'll know. I don't think I want to tell my mum just yet - I'll leave her thinking we're starting from March.
Eek!Don't worry about typing out my username - Call me COMP(Unless you know my real name - in which case, feel free to use that just to confuse people!)0 -
:j yay! Great news COMP! :j
