  • I have just emailed watchdog..........not sure if I will get a response though........but I reckon if enough of us do it then maybe someone will look........
here's a copy of my email to them............So come on guys..........it's no use giving up now..........for the sake of a few seconds to email the watchdog team ......you have nothing to lose and a refund to gain............plus the added bonus of letting other people know.......just how careful you have to be........there are some unsavoury characters out there.........don't let them get away with it............

Hi, I'm writing to report a couple of things really, firstly a website that sells console game at a reasonable price, or so I thought.
I did a google for the new xbox 360 game gears of war, now you can expect to pay up to £50 in high street game shops for a new copy. I was thrilled to find a copy for £32.99 inc free UK delivery at https://www.tigergame.co.uk ......I ordered the game on the 29th of Nov 2006, then a few days later I had an email explaining high volumes of orders may delay delivery..........I should explain that I paid using paypal , who are owned by ebay!

A few more days passed and I still had heard nothing, so I did another google and came across this website.....

    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=321240

if you care to take a look, you will see a few more people who share the same problem............. now it slowly dawned on me I have been fiddled..........that said..........because I had paid using paypal I thought ' OK ' ....I shall file a complaint with paypal for an item not received..........now it may seem like early days......and I'm no inspector morse..........but I am not holding my breath for a refund...........the tigergame website issued a notice to all it's customers........( you will se a copy posted on the forum link )....... It seems that tigergame have exploited a loop hole within paypal ( or have they )????? It looks like a direct attack to highlight paypal's unjust system and refund policy..........all will become clear on the forum site............

tigergame has now shutdown / been suspended.............after issuing that notice.........

I did mention it may be early days. ..........but if one rouge trader can setup a dodgy website ( that looked very professionsal )_......what is stopping someone else doing the same?

I know it's early days...........but I'm shocked at how many people on the forum seem to be ready to accept that paypal will not issue a refund........... paypal are aware of these loopholes why can't they fix the problems............

I personally lost around £45.........not the end of the world I know...............but that was my my wife and I's Christmas present!

I feel really bad for the kids that will have saved up, or kids getting ripped off especially at Christmas..........

I hope you manage to take a look at this, and please let me know if you find anything out

    kind regards and merry Christmas

After some weeks of waiting for a game or a reply to my email, I've just Googled m12watbun@yahoo.com and so found this thread.

I paid £18.99 for Sims 2 Pets for Nintendo DS on December 1st and have had neither the game or any reply. I also paid via PayPal so will immediately try to reclaim the money.

Sorry to hear that many others have been caught for a lot more.

After many years buying loads of stuff on the internet, this is the first time I've ever been caught out.

    Will also contact Watch Dog.

How can similar scams be avoided in the future?
  • Just emailed Watchdog - hopefully more will do the same???? Will just have to wait and see....

I got duped too and I always thought I was too savvy to be scammed! Goes to show how ridiculous the panic buying before Christmas has become. I "needed" a game which had sold out everywhere (which should have started the alarm bells) and just ordered without my usual cautious checks. Grrr!!

Anyone know what the legal position is with PayPal? I have lodged a claim and will see what happens, but I'm not holding my breath.

I'm kicking myself for being such an idiot!

Another annoying point is that I was redirected to the tigergame.co.uk website by a price comparison site as a sponsored link, which somehow gave it credibility.

I have responded on the ebay board as well, and whilst I am no expert I can post what 'should' happen.

Initiate a claim through the paypal resolution centre for item not received, make sure you read all the options before clicking on what claim you are making as you only get one go. Then escalate your complaint to a full chargeback.

If the site was an out and out scam then they probably did not display the paypal protection symbol in which case you would be relaint on paypal being able to recover any funds on your behalf. Reading this thread there is the possibility that some funds have been retained as Tiger seemed to be saying that their account was blocked back in November. However claims would be done on a first come first served basis, so get your chargebacks in quick.

For those who paid by credit card via paypal the news is much much better as your credit card company will refund you if paypal fail. Let the paypal claim work through and if funds are not recovered then immediately talk to your CC company and ask for all the necessary forms, do not be fobbed off, they are liable.

I always suggest that when using paypal, and I use nothign else on ebay, all payments are backed by credit card purely for the added protection. For the poster on page 1 of this thread who thought they were keeping themselves safe by NOT using a credit card via paypal, you may unfortunately have lost your money. Credit cards are surprisingly safe as even if they are used fraudulently the money is reclaimable as long as it was not drawn against a PIN.

Good luck to you all, lets hope these scammers don't prosper.

This is the link to open a claim through paypal.

    https://www.paypal.com/uk/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_comres_flow&trans_id=

Failing that, if your payment was funded by credit card, go to them. But try the paypal claim first.

Thanks for the replies. I will wait and see what PayPal come up with. In the scheme of things I didn't lose a lot (<£20), but what makes me cross is that it seems so easy to get away with such a scam.
I wonder how many people were affected? My guess is thousands...
Please can everyone keep us updated on their claims as they get processed so that we can all know what to expect, and band together if necessary.

    Cheers!
  • I too have also emailed Watchdog - hopefully more will do the same. Have also made a claim through paypal, I tried replying to one of their emails again, received an automatic yahoo response back -:

Thank you for your message. Due to unprecedented demand for our games,
we are unable to personally answer every individual email, as we simply
do not have enough time. We
respectfully ask our customers to please be patient with regards to
email answer time. We hope you understand that we have made the
dispatching of orders a priority over answering emails and this has caused a
backlog. Please be advised that all outstanding orders have been processed
and dispatched in time for Christmas. For advice on delivery times,
please refer to our shipping terms and conditions.
    Thanks again,

  • I too fell foul of TigerGame to the tune of £75. I checked up on them after their first email about delays and started a paypal claim asap when I saw the grubby trail they were leaving. I ordered via Paypal on Nov 29 and started my claim on Dec 4th - paypal have just settled in my favour and refunded my £75. I had my current account as the primary source but thanks to the advice here, I'll be changing to credit card.
With getting my claim in so quickly I had fairly high hopes of a refund, as the last time I was able to check my order status with TG I noticed that the payment had been withheld by paypal.
I sincerely hope everyone else is as lucky as me and gets a refund. If not, take a trip to Pattaya City, Thailand and pay the culprits a visit!
