I have been declined by the co-op bank for a cash minder account, and am really desperate for a new bank account with a debit card (even a visa electron), at the moment I bank with Natwest. I have applied with the citibank but after reading all this, I am quite sure I will be declined.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, we have got about 2000 a month going into our account, so hopefully there is one bank that would like to look after it for us.

I sent my application for the bog standard access account to Citibank on Saturday and assumed everything was going OK until I received a phone call earlier.

Has anyone noticed how the application check list they send out in the pack says that you need to send a copy of your most recent bank statement or utility bill? As it said copy, I sent a copy. The lass I spoke to said that a copy wasn't good enough and that I had to send them the original statement.

IF THEY DIDN'T WANT COPIES, WHY SAY COPY ON THE CHECKLIST?

If it had just said bank statement or utility bill, I would have sent the original, saving a delay in getting the account set up, if they accept me, the 2-3 minutes one of their members of staff was on the phone to me and the price of sending the statement off.

It is someone being pedantic, the original wont tell them anything different from the photocopy. They still have my cheque and they will be able to check my identification electronically as I'm British, have been living at my current address for over 15 years and I'm on the electoral roll.

    Not a good start.

Quicker to pay in via post as so far any cheques I have sent have reached them and appeared on the account balance (uncleared) the day after posting. Or keep another basic bank account and pay into branch as normal then use internet banking to transfer to your citibank a/c, I think it takes 3 days to hit citibank a/c (might depend on bank you use).

All is forgiven. I thought it was strange that I hadn't received anything in the post today or yesterday after they returned my bank statement on Monday so I gave them a call. They have set the account up and the welcome pack should be with me in a couple of days.

That's Abbey booted into touch, well as soon as I can find £1100 to sort my overdraft anyway.

I find it strange that people have been told that the cheque sent in with the application is only for proof of signature and an extra form of ID when the blurb in the application pack says that it is to open the new account. As I haven't got a cheque book with the account my wages are paid into I had to get a cheque from my local branch which is obviously signature free. Citibank were fine with that and a bank statement.

i've applied for a Citibank Access account today

not hopeful as my credit rating isn't too great - two defaults and one account with arrears. however i have a Barclaycard and a Capital One Matercard and 3 mobile phone contracts (one for me, one for hubby and one for son)

will let you know what happens
  • I've had my application returned asking me to provide a utility bill with only my name on - bit difficult as i live in a shared house!

Also i sent copies of my driving licence and passport but they also came back saying they needed to be certified by a professional? who can i get to sign them???
