I'm not sure to be honest.

I've sent them an online message for clarification. I'll let you know the result.

Thanks. I'm not sure I'd want to risk just trying it to see if it works - might end up incurring some charges!

  • Hiya,
Well I have had a reply from Citibank this morning.

"Kindly be informed that when a payment such as cheque or direct debit is presented and if there are insufficient funds on the account and the payment is referred to us then the payment is also referred to the credit department. In such circumstances based on business discretion the payment may be honored as an exception by making an internal transfer between your accounts. However, we are unable to assure you that all payments will be honored under such circumstances."

For me personally they have done this each time it's been required (3 so far).

Thanks for passing on that info. I'm not gonna risk it!

  • I think if you have a default on your credit file and it has been registered with a bank. I think for this reason you’re more likely to get declined.
Please can anyone confirm if they have been recently accepted with a default on their bank account

I thought you were able to pay in cheques to tsb?

I went into my local one and the lady told me I was only allowed to pay in cash

I take it you had your Citibank Deposit slip/book with you??

I find that it's just easier to hand over the deposit book and cheques/cash and just say "can I pay these in please" as I've found that if you mention anything about depositing into your Citibank Account it seems to confuse them and they say it can't be done.

    Thanks for the reply, :)

Yeah I had it with me.

The lady went onto phone someone else and she said the person on phone had confirmed that it wasn't possible.

She said I could only pay in cash because if the cheque bounced, tsb would be left out of pocket

I'm going to try again tomorrow at another branch.

I've just looked at my Citibank Deposit book and on the inside cover it clearly states that you can pay in Cash & Cheques at any LloydsTSB branch, So perhaps you could show them that?

    Lloyds TSB

Visit any Lloyds TSB branch and use one of the Bank Giro Credit slips found at the back of your cheque book to make a deposit into your Citibank Account. Lloyds TSB branches provide this service free in the UK. Sterling cheques deposited at Lloyds TSB branches will clear seven working days after deposit and will start to earn interest four working days after deposit. Cash deposits are available and start to earn interest four working days after deposit. All deposits will show on your account after four working days.

Hi guys Im after your opinions on whether Citi Bank may accept us or not,
Knowing nothing about credit checks or the lingo I hope someone can assit.

We have a DMP with several creditors and have been coping ok since last year, unfortunatley we have struggled quite badly the last few weeks as our bank Smile took our overdraft facility away (as it was only a years agreement) then our car got stolen etc etc, so we have had a hairy few weeks with a couple of returned direct debits and going unautherised overdrawn on the account.

We have managed to get back in the black with smile but will these hiccups go against us?

Seems citi bank have gotten tough! I started reading this thread wilth hope and it has slowly dissappeared after each page I read

thanks for your help in advance.

i've been reading this thread and really empathise with you - especially around b***y smile bank - they have been awful with me - they took down my overdraft by £100 per month which was terrible, putting me in debt elsewhere - i told them i wasn't managing but made no difference - now they won't let me have a payment plan for the visa card i have with them and haven't used for two years but it has collected 100s in charges and interest because i have a current account with them!! reason why i was reading this thread. I have started on letters to get charges back and looking for another current account, but doesn't look hopeful. I set up a parachute one with nationwide about 18 months ago - it just has a cashcard, no cheque book. went into branch this week but they said i wouldn't be able to get a cheque book if my credit history wasn't very good. so back to square one. and looking here for advice. thanks everyone.
