forgot to say - my overdraft was £2000 - they reduced it by £100 a month (one month they took the whole £2000 overdraft off - but luckily i borrowed some money and they put it back to £1000 overdraft, reduced by £100 per month). Haven't had overdraft for about 8 months now - but as i said, it caused problems with other bills etc, including the visa card.
Aiming to take control of my life:A

I applied for the Citibank Current Account and received my acceptance letter yesterday, which having read the whole thread and the recent rejections I was surprised by (given that I am still in an IVA through the High Court).

I did it mainly for the debit card, to give myself options when paying, and further little pots to split money between. I intend to put a very small amount of money in this account monthly, and not have my salary paid in.

Good luck to anyone else applying, they seem fairly open to applications right now.
  • The Cooperative Bank was very easy to open, as I have bad credit and only needed a basic account. They dont supply a cheque book, but you do get a Visa Debit Card and I dont have to deposit any minimum every month. I use them online mostly, but you can use them through any post office, as they dont have many High Street Banks. Very friendly and morally ethical too!

  • Just had a letter back from Citibank saying I have been provisionally accepted blah blah blah, does this mean they have actually accepted my application subject to providing satisfactory id or they are waiting to credit search me before they say yay or nay?

I am praying that they have accepted subject to suitable id, then I will no longer have a kids card for paying for goods!

    Regards,

    Matt

I havn't had time to look through this thread but I've been in the Citibank website and the only account that seems relevent is the Citibank Access account. Fir this account I would need to have an income of £20,000 p/a.
Am I missing something? HSBC are in the process of closing my Basic Account at the minute as A Direct Debit was returned (even though I had tried to cancel it) and I need to get a new account set up as quickly as possable.
Have Citibank changed anything since this thread was started??
    Thanks in advance.

    Important Information
    * For overdrafts over £500 an arrangement fee of 0.5% (min £20) may apply. There is also an annual renewal fee for this service.

The EAR is the Effective Annual Rate and is used to express the cost of borrowing on current accounts. The EAR takes account of the rate of interest charged, the frequency it is levied to accounts and compounding of interest. It does not include overdraft fees
