I think that they have really tightened their acceptance procedure now and its going to be like any other bank current account ie they are going to have proper checks and every thing.
If you get rejected its worth to do an appeal if they allow so.

I agree ... I said recently there doesn't appear to be any consistency to their account opening procedures .... I'm begining to wonder if its just luck on the day ... :undecided

may I just say that we do not allow any racist comments at all on this forum, if someone else got an account and someone else did'nt it is not because of race/colur/or anything like that, citi obviously do, do credit checks and if your not up to scratch then you dont get an account, its as simple as that,
    secondly
when you fill out the form online it is filled out for you automatically, so when you get it, you check its ok , then sign it and send it back
    thirdly,
I am sorry that some people cannot get an account but we are hear to encourage people to go for it, whether the out come is good, or bad, if its good then ok, crack open a bottle of bubbly, BUT if its bad, then its just hard luck and put on a brave face and get on with it, dont take it out on other forum members
    best wishes to you all
    and just a thought
we are all gods children regardless of colour or race.
the world would be a far better place if we could just learn to get on and treat each other as equals

I agree with CW, but I don't think the comment was intended to be racist, I may be wrong? I think the poster just meant if he/she can't get an account how come someone from another country that's not lived here as long can? Just pointing out that it's seeming to be inconsistant & people with worse credit, not on electoral roll, no ID etc can sometimes get the account wheras some with better credit or whatever can't. Seems since they changed to Plus & Access they've become stricter on opening accounts, wonder if anyone knows or can find out why. Anyway I don't condone racism but just think the poster didn't mean it in the way it may have seemed? I stand corrected if wrong!

Saw this thread a while ago and thought I would apply.

I don't have a cheque book, so after reading a few posts, sent my application back with an original council tax statement, a letter stating I had no cheques and a photocopy of both my passport and drivers licence.

My council tax statement was returned but today I received a letter stating that my account was provisionally approved but I needed to send a cheque with my signature on it.

I rang the advice number, said I had already sent my photocopied passport, and they said I would have to go into a branch?? As the only branches seem to be central London? Any advice?

Should I just ring back and ask someone else?

Ring them and ask them if you can send a certified copy of your passport instead, if yes then have the photocopy of your passport verified by a solicitor and send it to them.
I think it will work otherwise you have to go to their branch with your original passport.

About Citibank i.e what they say:

    New Citibank Plus/Access Current Account:

"Simple isn’t a word you’d usually associate with a bank account. But that’s exactly what makes the Citibank Plus/Access Current Account different.

It’s easy to manage and offers a competitive interest rate, with no catches and no strings attached. All of which makes it easy to earn money too. Simple.

    Easy to manage:

Dealing with your bank shouldn’t be difficult, but it often is. Whenever possible, we’ll take the hassle out of managing your money, whether that’s by transferring your standing orders for you or just by offering an efficient, personal service.

    Simply the best:

Not only do we offer one of the best current account interest rates in the market, but our rate is better than many savings accounts too.

    Just an everyday thing:

You earn the same great rate on any balance you have in your account, whether it’s £1 or £100,000. As interest is calculated daily, you can be sure that you’re earning something every day.

Your terms and conditions, not ours:

You manage the account on your terms, not ours. We’re not looking for any commitment from you upfront - there’s no minimum deposit required and you don’t need to give us your salary every month.

    Your choice:

You can use our Citibank Online service to access your account. Or, if you’d prefer, you can speak to one of our personal bankers, who are available 24 hours a day and have got the authority to get things done for you.

You’ll also receive a VISA debit card, enabling you to make purchases and to withdraw money from over 44,000 LINK cash machines in the UK and over 840,000 VISA and LINK ATMs worldwide".

The Sterling account is a 'full' current account ... From April, it will change to Citibank Plus and there will be a £10 monthly charge however you can swap to their Access account which is free and you still keep your debit card and cheque book etc ...

Both the plus and access accounts are current accounts the difference is that the plus account give some more benefits but charge a fee of £10/month and the access account dont give those extra benefits but dont charge a fee either.
So its upto each individual, i.e. if you want those extra benefits then keep the plus account (sterling current account at the moment but will be changed to the plus account on 1st April) and if you dont want those extra benefits its best to shift to the access account so that you dont have to pay the monthly fee of £10.
