Well just wanted to say hello!! Missing the daily thread.
Happy birthday Queenie! :bdaycake:
Going to do a bit of a swish and swipe before work at the pub tonight. Breadmaker will go on before work, as will the slowcooker with broccoli and veggie stock and will whizz that up when I get in at about midnight(ish) for soup for lunches!! Yum!!
And thinking about it I might make up some jelly too
Got JP, cheese and beans tonight for dinner!! Yummy  one of my all time fave dinners!!And for pudding I'm going to have an apple that has been peeled and cored and then the core stuffed with sultanas and then cooked in the microwave! Yummy!!
Hope everyone is well

catznine wrote:41 cookies so far! (well 39 now - had to test them after all!:rotfl: ) I have loads more dough left but needed a rest. Made hearts, stars, windmills (traditional dutch shape) Christmas trees and gingerbread men. They are yummy, not quite the consistancy I remember, as the cookies I had as a child were crumblier but the taste is spot on :j . I added (for a double batch) 2 tsp cinnamon, 1 tsp cardamon (only had the whole cardamon so had to get out mortar and pestle) 1 tsp mace, 1 tsp ground cloves, 1/2 tsp ginger and 1/2 tsp nutmeg. I think the recipe varied according to the town they were made in. Anyway thanks Kethry you're a star!:T
you made *DOUBLE?!* good lord, catznine... your family must really love the cookies (and yes, of course you had to test them!) they're quite good for making shapes out of... i wonder how long they keep, out of a box, was thinking of making some for the tree. the crumbliness factor.. the first few i did were rolled out thinner so they were browner and crisper than the next batch, so i wonder if they need a bit longer in the oven than the recipe says? might be worth a try.
thanks for the notes on the spices: if i do this again, i'll definetly add nutmeg. And yes, i think the recipe did vary, i remember asking MIL once what the definitive recipe was and she really struggled to answer me (our conversations on cookery are interesting as her english is good, but lacking in food terms, and my dutch is nonexistent - we resort a lot to pictures and descriptions!).
anyway, glad you enjoyed!!

Oh yes, sorry VickyA, I did read about what happened with your job (didn't know you'd lost the second house though - what a complete pain in the bum) and I can imagine that would complicate the house situation! Oh dear, I do hope everything picks up soon!

HOPE YOU HAD A GREAT DAY QUEENIE! :j:j:j
I did. Went to Central London to do a couple of surveys (well one must earn one's living) and popped into Debenhams. There they were selling kitchen knives made of surgical steel, which will never need sharpening and are guaranteed for life. Just for today only though: A set of five for £23 plus I got an extra paring knife thrown in for free...:):):)
Shame I ain't got time for all that cooking...:(Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0 -

Hello everyone

Been as os as possible - had a few slipups but as I said, I've been tired so I'm blaming that. looking forward to the holidays to get a good break! Did make a lovely chicken and bacon dinner on sunday though, so must try that again some time
Went to the craft shop on saturday for one thing and walked out with a bag (you know how it goes!) but also managed to get some books at the charity shop which will be making their way to kyle soon(got any of your bath stuff left kyle?)
Also picked up some cute not expensive jewellry at matalan which I decided I'd treat myself to from my lottery win
And just want to say Happy Birthday Queenie!

Evening all :santa2:
Happy Birthday Queenie (what's left of it, anyway) :bdaycake:
Glad I decided to read the thread - you just reminded me I had a loaf in the BM - which finished 4 1/2 hours ago
Quasar - those knives........ did they have one that is mega serated and cuts through anything including frozen food? Well, the paring knife is good (and free) I may have got that set in Debs last year - got 3 of those special knives..... and took them back
Anyway - been busy today but seem to have achieved nothing. Have spent hours sorting out my clients latest projuect, including nearly an hour on the phone tonight to an electrician talking over the pros and cons of assorted ceiling lights  Mind you - I'm enjoying what I do, so it's all good fun.
Have phoned a charity shop who will come and pick up loads of stuff on thursday - mine, and half the neighbours. At least this way it all goes on one day and I can keep it dry until they collect it
Made a fab spag bol today - they don't know it contained both soya mice (to bulk it out) plus two 2 large portions of blitzed steak and veg casserole I wanted to use up :snow_laug Must say, even I had seconds
Ok, need to do a bit more internet research and send some emails then watch "House" at 10. Have a good night and I'll catch up will ya all tomorrow.
:hello: to the newbies and ((hugs)) and/or congrats to everyone else as appropriate. Glad you're in your flat now Rzl and you enjoy sitting on those sofas

Sounds like it's the same knives. The set include three long serrated knives, a filleting knife and a paring knife. I tried them tonight and they seem ok. Why did you take them back? OMG
Nice to see you were creative with your spag bol... I tend to stick to traditional ingredient only when I make mine (I ain't Italian for nothing), but I often use Quorn mince if I can't find organic meat mince,Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0
