It will become a liquidation sale if it goes into admin and a lot better than a sale. Look out for the bargains
I never feel entirely comfortable with these types of posts which seem to overlook completely that many thousands of people will possibly be losing their jobs and facing hardship.
I think we really need to be more tactful and respectful in these situations. In my opinion, phrases like 'a lot better than a sale' referring to a company going into liquidation with many job loses and 'Look out for the bargains' leave a slightly bad taste in the mouth.
Perhaps simply mentioning that Focus (or whoever) is facing administration (and not liquidation, as far as I'm aware, and which is somewhat different as has been pointed out) is enough without seeming to revel in it.
Just my opinion.0 -
What a shame
Hopefully they will re open my local as another D.I.Y store as there are no others near by, so hopefull staff there will still be in a job, and I will still have a local D.I.Y store! Really rate their own brand stuff aswell, always went for focus own rather than well known named brands and always been really pleased with the quality and price. Really sad to hear this

No Frills DIY (part of the Focus Group of Companies) have totally changed the store near me and have been selling of loads and loads of Focus branded stock of late at silly prices.
They have been filly the "shelves" with the PAYLESS branded products and even of late they have had a 3 for 2 on those as well.
Maybe more No Frills DIY stores will open..............or perhaps these will "shut up shop" as well.

Why do people !!!!! and backbite on here???
Surely if it helps someone to save a few coppers then that is what the whole of this site is about????
Just pleasantly tell us all if the post has been moved to a more relevant area.
I have just read this thread and to be honest some of you should be ashamed of your attitude, we are here to help each other -Right???? Let's just get on with that and leave the grumpy comments out!
Keep smiling everyone, even in the direst of circumstances a little light may be seen.:wave:Must stop spending . . . must stop spending . . .0 -

My post is just to back the OP up and highlight that perhaps a little more caution should be taken for telling someone they are wrong and having their post deleted.
We had almost the same thread running which was last commented on a few weeks ago ...

So what exactly is the difference ???
If it was speculation that was the error then I'm as guilty because I pointed out in January that unless they were bought it would close ......As I said earlier their finances are in a dire state.
The problem towards the end of last year was they had made a loss of £21m and they had loans and overdraught of £230m.
One of the loans they had was £60m and was at 7% over Libor rate which takes some paying off.
The £230m does not include what they will owe to creditors.
Cerberus bought them about 3 years ago for £1 when they took on debts of £180m.
Needless to say the situation has got a lot worse so unless someone buys them soon it will goIt's not just about the money0 -
Good morning Silk..............do you fancy taking these on for £1??
I've got a spare 50p if you want to go halfers.
I agree with what you say, they have been in trouble for quite a while - the vibes from the staff at the NO Frills DIY store have not been good. Wouldn't mind a few cheap kitchen units though - keep watching.

The vultures are starting to circle!
<< is a self confessed "vulture" - unfortunately in the current climate, i have to be, this does'nt mean i don't feel bad for the people losing their jobs though, especially as we have just lost an alworths in our town as well (there is nothing left here but a matalan and a tesco now!!)Man who run into airport turn-styles is going to Bangkok

What I don't understand is why the thread was deleted for discussing Focus closing down ????
I think there is a function on thsi site where if enough people hit Spam the thread automatically goes. One of the seasoned MSE members cried spam very quickly which possibly encouraged others to hit the button, and hence the thread dissapeared.
B&Q were speculated as a possible acquirer of some sites, but the Monopolies people may have something to say about this. The Range would be a good option for many; only been to one store but impressed with their range (!) and prices0 -

I think a £1 might be overpriced at the moment as most of the assets have now been stripped unlike last time.
We will keep our powder dry for the time being and wait for the next Grabbit :rotfl:
It's a shame though because the competition have reported good figures in the last few weeks due to the good weather and Bank Hols etc.I think there is a function on thsi site where if enough people hit Spam the thread automatically goes. I saw the beginning of the thread but missed what happened .....shame
Best wishes to the staff and hope they get sorted. It's not just about the money0 -
Just bought a new kitchen from Focus on Monday at well over a thousand pounds, called the store today and they told me that they aren't allowed to release any goods at the moment. Does anyone have an idea of the best way I can proceed with this? Many thanks0
