Following notification of an event of default under the senior credit facility, and a realisation that there were no alternatives that could be explored any further, Focus Directors have come to the conclusion that to protect the interests of creditors they have no choice but to seek protection through filing a notice of intention to appoint administrators.
The Directors have sought consent from the business's lenders to appoint E&Y as the administrators. All stakeholders including staff are being informed.
From their website. Sad news.
It is indeed, especially for the 3900 staff they employ.0 -

Was it because it isn't a Grabbit perhaps? And it still isn't.0 -
How comes it was in 2007 but not now?0

The reason the poster was 'slated' is because they stated on here that Focus were going into administration. Yes, as it turns out that is correct, but at 10am when they posted the facts were not known, there was no official confirmation and it could well have been nothing more than scaremongering.
Staff and their families deserved to be given the chance to find out about their situation direct from their employees, not from some tittle tattle posted on an internet forum.
When confirmation in the press is received that a company is going under, THEN is the time to post and not before IMHO.0 -

Well im back and as I said earlier I wont be gloating about being right. The employees and families already knew the situation. I know this because I am one of them. As it stands the press know as much if not more than the staff. You may think its odd that I posted it on here but as it was no where at all online I thought people on here would have looked online in places I couldnt find as you seem like a knowledgeable bunch. Im more than happy to let people know if/when there are closers/sales which I am confident there will be unfortunately many of. Hey everyone loves a bargain after all, at least I will get to pick the best of them .:beer:Arise Sir Martin Lewis :money:, For services to the Great British public. Always Searching - I'm sorry to hear about your job. I don't know about your situation but hope they honour any redundancy packages.
Do you know of any stores closing in the Birmingham area, or are likely to close anytime soon as I and I'm sure others, would like to pick up a bargain?
Lastly, hope you find alternative employment reasonably quickly!0 -
Unfortunately I have not been with the company long enough to get any redundancy pay so I am well and truly up a certain creek with out a paddle. In an ideal world we will get bought out and everyone will keep their job but unfortunately we don't live in one of those. No one knows what stores are closing yet. We aren't even sure if we will get paid at the end of the month. As I said I will let you folks know everything I know.Always Searching - I'm sorry to hear about your job. My thoughts are with you and your family. I can completely understand what you are going through as I worked for Woolworths till the end. As long as Focus go into administration and declare themselves insolvent you WILL get paid. You can claim any wages/holiday pay from the insolvency service.
I hope things work out for you.
