*Sainsburys are indeed making a strong 'comeback' but their marketshare had dimished so much (Down to below 15%) that a comeback will be easier for them and im sure they will announce excellent christmas trading figures as their last few years have been poor so they can easily excel on those figures. Recent marketshare data concludes that Sainsbury's are taking the majority of their extra custom from Waitrose and Asda.
*Walmart could indeed knock Tesco off the top spot in the UK but their plan to diminish Tesco marketshare with the use of Asda stores quite clearly has not worked. Walmart have recently pulled out of the German market as they are not content in being in any country where they can't 'rule the roost'. Walmart have pumped millions into trying to make Asda a success in the UK and are not seeing the results of their efforts - With strong competition from Sainsbury's i wouldn't be suprised if Walmart/Asda didn't give up in the UK.
*And in response to why im so loyal to the company i work for its for a number of reasons - The benefits are good (Profit sharing etc,), also iv worjked my way up through the company and i believe they are one of the best bluechip companies to work for. Yes indeed they do make mistakes, they do have internal issues but on the whole they are a very successful fast growing company and i enjoy working for them - Im sure some of you may find that difficult to understand but there you have it;)
I would say that Sainsbury's isn't clawing back customers from just Asda/Waitrose. Tesco is losing customers to Sainsbury's too. I don't have the figures in front of me, but I'm fairly certain that I'm correct in this. Also, Sainsbury's isn't focussing on Tesco's customers. I've had this information from high up in Sainsbury's. As far as Sainsbury's is concerned, Tesco will be the cause of its own undoing. The competitors see Tesco as a company that has bitten off more than it can chew. Eventually, it will choke itself without any competitor having to do more than they are already doing. (That's the view from up high in Sainsbury's, by the way).
Walmart hasn't really made a huge effort in taking on Tesco, either. If Walmart wanted to do that, it wouldn't be hard. After all, Walmart accounts for 10% of the Top 250 global businesses' combined sales. With our laws on loss leaders as they are, Walmart could drop prices to the point that Tesco would not be able to keep up. The UK isn't a top priority for Walmart. Same for Germany, by the way (not the laws on loss leaders, as German law makes it illegal to sell products at a loss). The German market is a very hard market to break into. They are fiercely loyal to German companies (which is why Aldi, Lidl and Metro are top of the tree over there). They don't like foreign businesses, especially American ones, taking over their companies. Walmart made a massive mistake in Germany which it failed to repeat in the UK - it rebranded the stores to Wal-Mart. In the UK, it kept the name Asda. The state of the German economy hasn't helped Wal-mart, either.
I can understand to some extent why you feel loyal to your employer. However, I still believe your loyalty is misplaced. For me personally, I would not be loyal to a company that generally treats staff like dirt, regardless of how much money they paid me or how many times they promoted me. As you say, it's a successful company. However, it still makes such inexcusable mistakes. It then allows the front line staff to clean up the mess and deal with the customers. Have you worked for other blue-chip companies? In a rut? Can't get out? Don't know why?
It's time to make that change.

Sorry but I was lurking and now feel I have to chip in to dispute a point thatTE made.
WALMART is alive and well in Germany. My relatives live there ans till shop there
The population of Germany does not shop in Aldi and Lidl alone you know!
P.S you should have known that TE was management - that has been obvious from the start. I could tell you what gave it away but I am a polite person;)0 -
:wall: :wall: :wall: I would love to see a 'Tesco Employee' come on here and postively praise our actions. But we are on a 'hiding to nothing' when it's us and the enemy discussing tactics. Let's just stick to what we do best and let the 'employees' figure it all out!DTD - Doing Tesco Daily - while I still have vouchers!0

Interestingly enough, in the above article, it claims that Wal-mart's pull out from the German market means that Wal-Mart is now planning to increase investment in Asda in a bid to take on Tesco in the UK.

On a side note, I've been to the Wal-Mart featured in the photo many a times...
I think TE is a team leader or a section manager, by the way - not higher than that. In the Tesco heirarchy, that's not very high.
TE, before you take offence, I could have said you were on Options. In a rut? Can't get out? Don't know why?

Just to comment on your last point when working in retail staff will always be on the 'front line' and face all customer complaints etc, - Regardless of which retailer you work for you always face the wrath of the disgruntled customer. I worked for Sainsbury's for a few years, and i still keep in touch with several of the Managers there and i can say in my opinion they were awful to work for but at the time their only focus was to compete with Tesco.
I think Sainsbury's will become a strong second placed supermarket in the UK because they are changing their offer - They have moved on from the fact of trying to be a 'me too' retailer and trying to copy Tesco, They are now concentrating on their core business and what their customers want rather than what Tesco customers want and it seems to be working for them. But just a point of interest Sainsburys have always been marketleaders in 'niche' areas such as Organics - They have always lead the way in this area and up until 6 months ago had over 35% marketshare and would not let another supermarket come close to touching them in this area - Tesco revamped their Organic offer and now have 38% share and knocked JS down to 2nd place with a dimished 24% - I think JS need to be careful on areas such as this and not lose focus on their core offerings which have seen them through harder trading times.Stand Up For What You Believe In, Even If It Means Standing Alone0 -

:rotfl: Dont quite know how I pulled it off, but I got WWE Smackdown R&Rd.
Went to do the weekly shop and picked it up along with a copy of the NOTW.
Went to CS and it was refused, small print says Selected stores only. So I just got a refund. Could not get out of the small print.
The wife rang on the way home to tell me to get milk. So thought I may aswell try again in a different store.
Purchaed it, had a moan as they were selling me one which was unsealed but they didn't have any others agreed that the price was incorrect as per the paper, so said they would over ride the price and sell it to me at £24.xx. (It got fun here)
Pointed out the policy re overcharges - Sorry that says the price on the SHELF or the product. Which she was quite correct about so I came back with.
"Yes but your newspapers are on a shelf and the price is in there" :rotfl:
She smiled and called for a manager, 5 mins later and he had still not come, she was about to just give it to me when he turns up.
He just said yes you will have to I suppose. Oh yeah he had an armful of Games and all the NOTW's aswellWe took on Mr T and we won:D
Shame it had to end, will have to get free stuff from comps now :beer:0 -

I wouldn't take offence to you saying i was on 'Options' - Its actually an award winning industry scheme, and 'Options' is the term used whatever stage of your career you are in - Wether it be progressing to a SEM, ST or SM.Stand Up For What You Believe In, Even If It Means Standing Alone0 -
MyUserNamesTaken wrote:TE is behaving on the thread and is having a reasoned and reasonable discussion. In light of this, please edit your post.
Today is the first time I have witnessed anything like a sensible post from TescoEmployee.
His first post today assumed the others were talking about him, when in effect, they were talking about Tesco Employee(note the space)....
Unfortunately I havent got the time or inclination to read right to the end of the current discussion, before commenting on posts, although i realise it sometimes comes back to haunt you.
I wont edit my post, because everything I said was true.(prior to today)
Up till today TescoEmployee was regarded by many on here as a troll, with his constant jibes and comments, just appearing to start confrontation.
If he were to continue to contribute constructively to the thread in a way he has shown today, then I and others may change our views.
He explained in his first post that he usually gets shouted down.........thats because the previous nature of his posts warranted this.
Please be aware though that we now have a TescoEmployee and a Tesco Employee as posters on this thread .Couponing....."every little hurts"

But all the people can't be all right all the time. .........I think Abraham Lincoln said that.
