Tesco misprice discussion area part 15

ncrossland wrote:I read that Tesco (and probably other supermarkets) are trialling LCD shelf edge labels which would automatically update themselves to the correct price. I reckon these will be commonplace and we'll all look back and laugh at how prices used to be printed on bits of paper! :-)
I was chatting to a Manager in a big IT store today (I was doing an audit and some of his sel prices were scanning higher and he was telling me what a problem it is as their main till database is updated at a different time to the database that the hand held scanners work on). We got on to supermarkets and he mentioned the LCD labelling - he said Morrisons are using it already in selected stores but it only checks that items are in the right place on the shelf - if a customer puts a £50 item back in the wrong place then the price 'follows' it ifyswim. He said the system works on a chip on the product label and thats put on by the manufacturer. Tesco HO would presumably still have to input the correct price details into their central database - so I don't see that the LCD system would stop all misprices given that they are almost certain to make input errors. And OOD errors would still happen wouldn't they ? Or have I misunderstood the whole thing ?ELITE 5:2

As i mentioned i think we will see strong Christmas trding figures from JS this year - But i also believe it will take them a very long time to get their business back on the rails, It has been managed so poorly in the past that it will take time - They are also way behind in terms of growth area's such as Home Shopping (They literally stood by and watched Tesco and Ocado run away with this), Non Food, Stand alone Non Food stores, Clothing etc, I think their biggest mistake though was not getting into the 'top-up' market which have been so successful for Tesco in the Express/Metro formats. But their focus on high quality food will hold them in a good position as they have a grand scope to roll this out nationally unlike Waitrose, They now need to revamp their stores which have been neglected for years - Of my 4 locals JS stores only 1 has had a refit in the past 5 years, On the otherhand my local Asda has had 2 refits and of the 5 Tesco stores - 4 have had refits inbetween 3 Express stores and a Metro popping up.Stand Up For What You Believe In, Even If It Means Standing Alone0 -

It was the attitude that made you unbearable.
Carry on as you have been today and you'll find people will respond in a positive way to your contributions to the thread.
Don't be offended by this post, either, as no offence is meant. In a rut? Can't get out? Don't know why?

That is indeed the problem - It would still be managed centrally the only bonus would be that Managers would have the option of changing prices if there was an error which in turn MIGHT cutdown on r+r'sStand Up For What You Believe In, Even If It Means Standing Alone0 -

MyUserNamesTaken wrote:The revamping of the stores is already underway. A store I was in last week underwent a major revamp just last month. This is a Sainsbury's flagship store, by the way. Last week, they had the CEO in, this week a Director was in...The result of the revamp has pushed their trading figures through the roof (last week alone, they went £140K over target on trading figures for the week). There are a load more revamps planned for the new year, starting in January. I think, once the revamps are underway, Sainbury's will turn its attention to other areas, such as Home Shopping, etc, etc. The TU departments within the individual stores is one of the areas of focus for revamping, by the way. Ditching the horrible orange colour's going to help, too...
They seem to be stuck with what to do with their 'Savacentre' stores at the moment though - I know people who work in one that was changed into a standard JS - In it's heyday it was taking 1.6 million pw, that dropped to below 800,000, since the refit its still taking 800,000 (still a good amount) - At the moment the few converted SC stores they have simply do not have a big enough Non Food range to be able to fill them but in turn JS won't part with them as they know Asda or Tesco will snap the sites up.Stand Up For What You Believe In, Even If It Means Standing Alone0 -

The Savacentres are a bit of a problem. You'll find a lot of the stores are far too small in terms of floor space. I think the way forward is for Sainsbury's to start buying up land and build when possible. Follow Tesco's lead here, and build up a massive land bank...In a rut? Can't get out? Don't know why?
