Oh Greyhound ... sorry to hear you had to go through this.
2023: the year I get to buy a car
  • Hi DT,

Long time lurkker stepping into the light ... and if the others earlier felt that they were muppets ... I dread to think what that makes me. Having been off the boards for a while .. I returned and continued reading via my subscribed section ....... didnt have a clue you'd started a new one :o

I know you've talked over and made a decision on this since it was posted, but I just wanted to share that I was in this position not so long ago, re my house / dads house.

I held on to my house as I had hoped that it would eventually earn it's own keep ... but things went very awry and I wound up having to let it go to stop us getting any deeper.

It did cost me in negative equity in the end,,, and much heartache .... but now it's gone, a weight has lifted and whilst I've got bigger debt - it's no longer costing me for upkeep (I wasn't even in the position to be able to rent it out due to condition). It's a big decision to make either way and I know it's a hard one to foresee. :)

    Wishing you well
    G'Angel xx

*subscribes to new thread & returns to lurking* :o

Hi as it happens I subscribed to your latest diary yesterday and I read your previous two and you certainly been having it tough at least we are in reasonable shape healthwise and I know it is a cliche but that is more important than money. So I am lurking on your thread too :)

Re the house we have estate agents going in this week they have advised not to sell if at all possible they have been instructed to sell next door which was repossessed by the bank 2 years ago and is in a mess but it is going for a v low price so we really need that one to be sold and hopefully tidied up before we try to sell ours so they are going to see about a long term let but I need to check the tenancy agreements over there etc. as I don't want to be left with tenants I can't get out

In brighter news I made plum crumble yesterday with plums from the garden and picked a few raspberries and blackberries lurking in the veg garden not enough to do anything with but nice all the same still have loads of plums left so need to look into plum jam I think :D before the wasps get them

It would be nice but I don't have any port in so can't justify buying some to make jam ;)

Well it seems I was not the only one to have a cunning plan by the time I got home from Mr. Ts OH had sold his car and the money is already in our account don't know whether to laugh or cry in fact have done a bit of both but mainly the latter :o

He said it was the only thing to do and he didn't want to see me upset any more.

So the overdraft is gone, there is money for the current emergency and some to do an essential repair to the chimney and the rest is going off the CCs which will reduce the amount we have to pay out each month and this has given me the boost I need to pay off the rest of the CCs I anticipate about 16.5K left to pay which is a heck of a lot less than 89K when we started

Good for OH - well done him for taking decisive action to solve the immediate problem! And well done both of you for paying back £72.5k credit card debt - that is amazing!

  • DT, I know how hard that must have been for him but what an absolute darling. Maybe once the house in Tenerife gets sorted he can get another. You must let me know if he plans to head to one of the major events in November or January at a certain exhibitin centre that are of interest to him in case I am able to sneak him a little gift pack and maybe a closer look at something very special. x

I so want him to have another when the time is right :)

And yes my annual Christmas present to him is a ticket to a certain show in January so that would be lovely :T

I have paid the CCs which has cleared two completely one of which when I get the next statement will be closed as it has a high credit limit 13.5K and they never offer us any decent offers the other one I will keep because it is one I use for vouchers I have also made a substantial payment to a third as that will come off interest free soon so will need to be transferred and that is the one I am concentrating on at the moment as the other two are interest free until January.

So the grand total of CC debt as at today is £15,776.51 so still a way to go but we are getting there and today has been such a boost that I actually feel we can do it whereas before I just felt as if I was drowning so I am off to sell anything else that I can lay my hands on to get this reduced even further.

PS Dragon I will work out the figures and post on the Olympic thread I promise.

  • You will have to let me know nearer the time what day he is going. Shame he isn't going to the November one as there will be a number of very special items he could have had a nosey at close up!
