Question for the Eon Rep Malc:

My last quarterly invoice from Eon was dated 8 Mar '11. I would expect that my next invoice would come around 8 June '11.

If I decided to switch to EDF today, I am told the switch can take 6-8 weeks (but normally done in the 5th week). So even if done in the 5th week, this would be after the scheduled next invoice date of 8 June '11.

Would I expect to receive my full 26.8% discount on the 8 June invoice (if I switch to EDF today)?

If I put in meter readings today and request an invoice today -then make the switch to EDF today - and say for example the switch date would be 15 June.

Can I give meter readings on say 10 June and request an invoice on 10 June (to still get the 26.8% discount) on my useage from today 11 May - 10 June?

I am aware that I would be subject to a £30 fee for leaving before 1 July - but it is my view that the EDF fix rate will not be around much longer - and will go up by alot more than the £30 early leaving fee - a calculated risk I suppose.

Assuming I would get my 26.8% discount on the 11 May - 10 June invoice, this would more or less equate to the £30 fee.

    Many thanks

Hi Malc,I am another customer coming to the end of Fixonline8, trying to find another deal.

Reluctantly I will have to leave Eon, which is a great shame. I appreciate that Eon will not be able to continue to supply power at the cost I have been enjoying, but I am also reluctant to leave because customer service at your company is fantastic.

Is there no way that Eon could at least match the deals I have been offered with other companies? Is there any flexibility to do this?
I would love to stay a customer of your company, but sadly it may not be possible.

    Hi miss_miggins

I'm glad to hear you've been happy with our service and sorry you're leaving.

Unfortunately, the only tariffs we currently have available are those already listed on the comparison sites and our website. I'm afraid our agents are limited to these.

Sorry I can't offer anything more positive miss_miggins and best wishes with whatever you decide to do.

  • Hi There,

If the EON rep could please help me i would relly appreciate it.
I'm not up to date with all the jargon so please speak clearly for me.

I am very happy and have been with EON F OL 8 (finishes 1st July)but i am going to have to leave and find a new supplier.

Presently i read every month and request a bill. If i read today and requested a bill would i still get all my discounts even though i informed EOn i was leaving?
Also, i understand that it take between 5 -7 weeks for the transfer to go through. If i was to then read again in 4 weeks and request another bill, would that also have my discount on?

I am assuming final bill in the final one i get. Would this be from the last date i read and requested a bill to the date the switch happened? And is it on this bill, i would not get my discounts and have to pay the £30.00 cancellation fee?

    Many Thanks

Sorry Malc still a bit confused.

If I decide to switch now(from EONFOL8) I don't know the exact date it will occur but for arguments sake it is say 20th June.

1.)If I am lucky (or perhaps I ask for a bill each day between now and then;)) I could ask for a bill on the 19th and keep all discount and pay the exit fee £30 and 1 days usage at full whack?

2.)If I miss it and say my last bill was 1st May then I will lose the discount between 1/5 and 20/6 and still pay the breakage fee. Is that correct?

That doesn't seem fair or equitable to me. In the headline grabbing summary of the tariff all Eon state is a breakage fee of £30 as the penalty. That is the basis on which I entered the contract not the final bullet of clause 17 out of 21 in the contract subsequently sent to me. I have only read that last bit today.

For instance the old BGsaver 11 clearly states a potential penalt of £60 for early breakage and that is the comparison I would be looking at against the competitors not the billing dates.

Contracts are contracts I know but if 1.) is achievable then it seems a bit daft to me.

    Hi merchcon55

It's only on final bills where we don't give discounts.

Of the examples above, if the switch completes after the bill dated 8 June 2011 you will receive all the relevant discount on the 8 June bill as there will be a final bill after this.

Alternatively, if you have a bill on 10 June and the switch completes on 15 June then again, yes, the only discount you will lose is for the period between 10 - 15 June.

The cancellation charge will apply in both of these cases if the switch completes before the end of the contract on 1 July 2011.

Hope I've explained this ok merchcon. Give me a shout if you need anymore info as will be happy to help.

Thanks for all the help, Malc - so many of us, all wanting to stay with e.on for the good customer service, but all leaving very soon for the lack of a competitive enough offer to keep us with e.on. What a shame.

Are you able to flag this up somewhere on the offchance that somebody, somewhere, will realise that it makes little commercial sense to lose so many customers in one go? e.on could match those other deals we're all considering if it wanted to - you can be sure the other companies won't be offering those deals at a loss!

    Hi LOOBYLOO

I'm pleased you've been happy with Fixonline 8 but sorry you're leaving.

You'll continue to receive the relevant discounts on all bills except for the last one.

If you enter readings today and request a bill, you will receive the discounts on this bill even though you've told us you're leaving.

A bill issued in 4 weeks time should also contain your discounts unless it turned out to be the last bill. As you say, switches take a while to go through, so it's unlikely this will be the last bill although I've known them complete in 4 weeks.

Just a quick heads up; once the switch is in progress, you will not be able to enter readings through the website. You'll need to call us with these and request a bill this way.

If the switch completes before the end of the contract on 1 July 2011, you will be liable for the cancellation fee. This will be on the final bill.

Hope this answers your questions LOOBYLOO and sorry again you're leaving. Give me a shout if anything is still not clear as will be happy to help.

    Hi grizzly

Must admit, asking for a bill one day before the switchover date is a bit risky. I have known predicted switching dates to change albeit only by a few days. However, this could be enough to scupper you.

Also, I wouldn't recommend asking for daily bills either. Although this is potentially feasible, the likelihood is it will screw up the billing on your account and make it unbillable. Again, this would stop you achieving the desired outcome as it will result in a delayed final bill missing your discounts.

I would ask for a single bill approx one week before the predicted switchover date. This will include your discounts as there will be another bill which follows this.

If your previous bill was 1 May and you don't have another before the final bill, you will lose all the discounts between 1 May and the switchover date.

In all of the above, you'll be liable for the cancellation fee as you will not have completed the full term of the contract.

Hope this answers your questions grizzly. Give me a shout if you're still unsure as always happy to help.

    Hi Doc N

Thanks for the feedback and I do understand what you're saying.

I'll be sending all this info on for feedback for our managers to have a look at. As you probably know, I can’t personally change anything but just try to give advice and as much info as I can on here to try and help our customers.

Your absolutely right, we certainly don’t want to be losing good customers and I’m pleased to hear that so many of you on this thread have been happy with the service etc; from us. :)

    Thanks

Quite a lot of us in here are on the rather well-priced e.on Fixonline 8 tariff which finishes on 1 July.

There's no way I'll be staying with e.on on any of the tariffs they're presently offering us, so I'm starting actively to look around to switch - and with the cashbacks on offer for switching to another company e.on are going to lose a lot of customers. The cashback will more than cover any cancellation fee.

The question for the e.on company representative is whether they're aware of the number of customers they're likely to lose, whether that bothers them, and whether they're going to come up with a decent fixed/capped rate that's going to attract us to stay.

Looks like there could be a very severe cost penalty if I switch out of Eon FixOnline8 before the deal ends on 1st July. Yes, there's a £30 (?) early cancellation charge, but also they will also take my on-line discount off the last statement they send. As my statements appear every 3 months, and the online discount is 18.4%, and my monthly payment is £105 - then I reckon they will take something like £60 off me - plus the £30 fee. Looks like it might be better to risk price increases, let them transfer me onto their new offered rate for a few weeks and wait till the EON statement arrives in July before telling them I'm off !
