Yes they did a search last night
  • I'm just in the initial stages of entering a debt management plan where I intend to pay off my debt but do it without paying interest on credit cards. I have a joint bank account with my wife and primary debts such as mortgage , council tax etc are not an issue...........crefit cards are the big problem. The concern I have is that I owe the bank we are with at present £6k. I f we include them in our debt management plan we may lose our bank account. Advice given by a money manager was to open another account with a bank we had no credit cards with. We have applied to 2 others and both have declined us. I am now in a panic that we will have no bank account to operate for paying mortgages, direct debits etc.............can anyone advise me how to gain access to another bank account.........no overdraught facility, just a direct debit facility and a switch card would be nice????

Barclays cash card account comes with a VISA debit card, its a basic account without no overdraft, u can set up D/D, S/O and pay one off bills. U have online banking, telephone banking aswell. If you do apply for this account request a VISA debit card instead of a cash card.

Natwest Step account is another a basic account which allows you to set up D/D, S/O pay bills etc, has tele banking and fone banking. Its comes with a SOLO debit card but has a MAESTRO sign at the back of the card so where ever you see the MAESTRO or the SOLO sign you can use it.

Actually, on the form, there will be two boxes to tick (i.e. debit card or cash card). No matter which card you pick, you won't be credit 'scored', as it's a basic bank account. They will just check your ID and address.

Therefore, there is no need to 'request' as such.
  • Thanks Sabi but we also owe Barclaycard money so doubt if we will have any joy there. Natwest may be worth a go though.............I'll let you know!!

Anyone else who maybe able to assisit plesaes feel free.

I don't think that should be a problem, they don't credit check for the cash card account they just verify your address. I owed barclaycard money when i went bunkrupt, they still accepted my application. Give it a try or if you prefer Natwest then go with that.
  • Applied to natwest online last night so here's hoping..............my salary and my wife's is approx £2500 a month so surely!!
  • Will try to open a step a/c at the branch tomorrow .Thanks
Discharged nearly 15yrs and happen again😓
  • Hope someone can help me with this :)

I have had difficulty opening a bank account since falling into financial difficulty when I lost my job last year.

I had a default issued for a loan, and have been turned down for an account with Alliance and Leicester.

I applied for a RBS Current Account online, and the documents came today, stating that I had to return, or take proofs of address etc into my local branch, which I also did today.

I checked on MyEquifax, and there is a search on my credit file from RBS stating 'OptIn' on the day I applied.

Does this mean I have been successful?, has anyone else had the same?

I need to open a new bank account, as am presently going through the bank charges reclaim procedure with Cahoot, and claiming the Financial Hardship line.

    Many thanks in anticipation.
