hi all,
today i made an appnt with the yorkshire for tuesday to open a readycash account.
i told the advisor i would like to open a readycash account and he said "yep thats fine just come along with your id and we'll see what we can do"
from reading these post's it sounds like they will carry out a credit check but not a credit score, which sounds good because i have the experian thing online, which i checked about 10 mins ago and it said my national credit score was 385 very poor.
so if the yorkshire carry out a credit score i am very worried i will fail it.
please can you re-asure me they will not credit score!!?
i have also appiled for a citibank account the access one, sent my id with my cheque today, lol, i sent it recorded.

Back in April I decided to apply for the Clydesdale Bank Readycash account after reading about other peoples experiences on this forum. I explained to the advisor that I had a bad credit rating due to defaulting on my current account with Halifax and my credit card when I lost my job last year. She was very friendly and she explained that there would be no problems at all opening the account and that it was available to anyone as long as they are not bankrupt or have a history of fraud - she never even mentioned doing a credit check and only looked at my photo driving license for id. She was unable to open the account that day as the computer systems were being updated but less than a week later my account was open and I had my Maestro debit card! The advisor also said that they may look at upgrading my account in the future dependant upon how I operate it. I have been using the account for a few months now and have had no problems with it at all!
I don't think you will have any problems at all opening this account and should go for it!0 -
Its credit checked, but non scored.
I have covered this in previous posts, i think account opening is at the advisors discretion. That saying if your truthful and take along all your documentation, recent bank statements help as well. You should be fine.0 -

I have an Easycash account and I never heard about any £10 buffer so I sent email to Halifax asking about it and this is the reply I received.
Thank you for your e-mail dated 28th August 2007.
In response to your query, I can confirm that with the EasyCash account
there is not a £10 buffer when the account is overdrawn.
Should you require any further information, please do not hesitate to
contact our Bank Accounts department on 08457 20 30 40. Our lines are
open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
A consultant will be happy to help.

A number of bogus e-mails are currently circulating in the UK
encouraging customers to visit fraudulent websites where personal or Internet
security details are requested. Bank of Scotland would never send e-mails
that ask for confidential or personal security information.0 -
hi,
oh that is strange, i have been overdrawn a few times with my easycash account and the advisors i have spoke to have always said "because it is less than £10.00 you will not be charged as the account has a £10.00 buffer limit to help easycash customers manage their funds".
in my prev post i posted i was appying for the readycash with the yorkshire bank
well..
today i went into the yorkshire bank and my account was opened there and then i have received my sort code & account number.
the advisor did carry outa credit search BUT not a credit score as it only shows on my credit fils as an enquiry.
which is really good, so therefore i am one step closer in having my credit file perfect again, YEY!:j

I did find this snippet on Debthelpuk website about Bank Of Scotland Easycash account (ooks like it was before they merged with Halifax)
The overall leader just has to be the Bank of Scotland's Easycash Account which already has 130,000 customers. They really seem to have thought out and addressed the real concerns of customers who will use this account. Most of the other banks give the impression that they are doing the minimum necessary to comply with the Government deadline, and are not really interested beyond that.
The Bank of Scotland's Easycash Account was launched in March 1998 and was the first of these type of accounts in the UK. It was recently given an award by the European Institute of Financial Services for the work that the Bank has done in tackling financial exclusion by launching this account. As well as the facilities set out above, it offers the following additional benefits:- A built in £10 buffer facility allows customers to access all the cash in their account from a cash machine - good if you're budgeting tightly
- A bank card which can be used to make purchases in the same way as Switch but without the risk of going overdrawn - the account balance is automatically checked each time
Looks like it was a feature of the original Easycash to have a £10 buffer and has since been dropped for new customers or all customers.

Please be insistent that you are applying for a ReadyCash account and not a main Current Account.
What the Yorkshire Bank staff try and do, is try to ask you to apply for a main current account and then say "if this does not go through we will try you for a ReadyCash account". As I use to work for another bank, I can see why staff try to do this and cannot blame them... All bank branch staff have very high pressure sales targets to reach and unfortunately Basic Bank Accounts are not one of these targets, where opening a full bank account is. So if they can open a main Current Account for you, they have achieved an extra mark towards their monthly sales targets.
I know it maybe tempting to see if you can get the full hog bank account, but you need to use your discretion and only YOU know how bad your current situation is and what kind of details are stored about you on the credit checks.
If the bank finds out undesirable information on you while applying for the main Current Account, it is unlikely they will even want to offer a Basic Account. Where otherwise if you had just applied for the basic account in the first place, they would have not done all the checks and brought up some of the information and would have automatically offered you the Basic Account.
So exercise your caution and only realistically apply for what you think you will be entitled to get! I think this is why some people have had their Co-op and Yorkshire Basic Accounts declined.
I am in no way telling people to lie about their situation, but only tell the bank the information they require on the application form. Also have an informal chat with the bank staff about your situation and they will usually know the likelyhood of what account you will get, before they input the details in the computer and press the <SEND> button.
