Ah ok sorry. Otherwise there's this number 0500 007 234 that's the one to apply for an account so they might be able to look into without some machine demanding the acct no. They're not open til Mon 8am though.

I opened a RBS Key account in January, Got the account number etc, all set up I can pay money into the account but the REFUSE to give me a card of any kind on the account without any explaination what so ever. So basically all I can do is pay money into it and not get it back out again without going to a branch.
  • Barclays have closed my account without giving me notice. My wages are being paid in tomorrow and the account is closed. Can they do this? I was led to believe that the bank has to give me 30 days notice in writing explaining the reason. Is this true and if so, what is the regulation

Not sure they have to give you a reason, but fairly sure that they can only do this without reason if they have reason to believe there is fraud involved or if youn are bankrupt.

  • Hi Guys

I have a Natwest Current Plus account that came with a Solo Card. I had heard that Natwest would be upgrading to Visa Debit sometime soon, upon hearing this my friend applied for a Step Account, which came with a Visa Debit card, he was pleased with this as he thought he would be able to use it at Tesco Pay At The Pump, unlike his Co-Op Visa Debit card which worked like an Electron.

To his surprise the Visa Debit card from Natwest was refused, am I right in thinking that this is also a Visa Electron card using the Visa Debit logo like the Co-Op Visa Debit card.

Natwest issue 2 different Visa Debit. One is Blue & doesn't work at the pump, one is Purple and works everywhere.

No, it's a Visa debit (Electronic). It's different from an Electron. It acts like a normal Visa debit card, and can be used when Electron is not accepted. When you use that card, it will say 'Visa debit' on the till and receipt, and not Electron.

Banks such as Barclays and LTSB have this kind of debit card, and don't offer Electron.

Correct...The blue one is a full authorisation card...exactly the same as the Solo/Electron cards.

The purple one is a full debit card 'servicecard' that can be used offline such as pay at pump etc etc. I
