Give him a couple of days and call them. CCJs shouldn't be a problem.

IIRC Halifax do not do direct upgardes from their basic account like some other banks

Do you know which banks do???

Went to the co op to open a basic account on Saturday. Bloke asked me if I had any bad credit etc. Told him I had CCJ he said not a problem. Only touble is he said he couldn't open one on a Saturday and just took my phone number.

Wonder if he'll bother ringing back?

If you're trying to open a CashMinder account, then you can do so over the phone.

Maybe give them a ring instead and bypass the branch?

true, i just had a cash card for over a year, eventually i was given a visa electron account, it made my life so much easier.

They were good to me, along with Lloyds during my hardship, but Lloyds only ruffled my feathers because i could only use their ATM to with draw from.

    i HATE HSBC:mad:

Switch to Barclays, RBS, and Natwest who offers debit cards with their basic accounts. The cards work in all ATMs.
  • Just a note regarding the Lloyds TSB cash account, which I have held for over a year. I recently had to order a new debit card as mine was damaged and the adviser mentioned that although you can only use the debit card at Lloyds TSB Cashpoints if I opened an EasySaver account (£1 to open) I could instantly transfer money from the Cash Account using Internet Banking and use any ATM with the optional Cashpoint card which you can get with the EasySaver account. This is exactly what I did and its great. Also you might be interested that the new debit card I got is a very nice Silver Card with the Olympics Logo on it and a silver magnetic stripe and is much smarter than the old greeny blue horsey one!!, it looks just like the Platinum Debit Card (sorry I can't post a pic), the cashpoint card also appears to be a new design to the ones I have seen pictured elsewhere.
  • Thought I'd share my experience with the natwest and the co-op cashminder.

Needed to open a basic account, after several years of having my wages paid into my OH's account (for various reasons!), I recently changed jobs and my new employer wouldn't pay wages into a 3rd party account. Had a look round and decided to go for a Natwest Step account. Applied online and received an ID request through the post a few days later. I went into the local branch with everything I had with my name on it. I had no utility bills or anything like that in my name but thought I'd be be ok with passport (which was ok) and driving license (took 7 years of p60's and various other official forms just in case) but they wouldn't accept any of it - and wouldn;t take my driving license as it was only provisional (I did ask what the difference with a full one was but the guy I spoke to didn't know!

Went round the corner to try Barclays who only had appointments to open accounts a week later! Then decided to try the Co-op. A very nice lady took my details and when I showed her all my documents all she said she needed was my passport! Today, 9 days later, my card has arrived and I've registered for internet banking all without a hitch. I can't recommend them more highly!

I rang them on Friday and sorted an account out over the phone. Hopefully it will be set up this week and I can try and get my life back on track.
