    Thanks again, book12.

Barclays want two proofs of identity but I only have one, a passport. I don't have a drivers licence and all bills are handled by my parents.

Is there any point in me filling out the form, going to Barclays with only my passport and possibly being turned away because I only have the one proof of identity?

Are there any banks that will accept only one proof of identity?

I applied for a Cash Card account yesterday. I was asked at least 4 times "are you sure?" to which I said yes. She gave me a form to fill in (I filled in my NI number but didn't complete the mortgage details as I rent) and she took a copy of my passport. She put the form in the envelope and said I would hear a decision in about 10 days.

What's the reason for opening a basic account? :o

What are the other options for proof of address on the form? Try another Barclays branch, they might open it in branch for you. Try the bigger ones.

If you have good credit history and all that, try the Barclays Bank Account. One ID is enough.

I think LTSB and Abbey allow you to open with one ID, such as a passport.

Banks can find you on the voters roll (if you are on it).

I'm going for a a basic account because it's my first bank account and currently I'm looking for work.

The other options under proof of address are related to bills, council tax TV licence all of which are handled by my parents.

Abbey don't provide a debit card.

If I have voted in the past then would I be on the voters roll? Because on the form under all the options of proof of address it says that they will complete a voters roll check.
So even if I can't provide proof of address, shouldn't I still be able to send the form and have my address be confirmed through the voters roll check?

If only I was as lucky.

With the Halifax Easycash account you get a Visa Electron card and you don't have to provide any ID if they can find you electronically on the electoral roll

But Halifax don't let you use a branch counter to pay in money.

What's the difference between a Visa Electron and a debit card?

But you can just use the deposit machines to pay in cash and cheques. It's very easy to use and I like using them as it beats the inevitable queues.

Visa Electron is a debit card that can be used nearly everywhere now. The main exception is "Pay @ Pump" at petrol stations
  • You can open a coop cash account (visa electron) with just a passport. It took me 15 minutes in branch to open one last week.

    It's a Visa debit card.

Visa Electron needs authorisation before taking the amount from the accont. If you buy something and the account doesn't have enough money, the transaction is declined.

I'm sure you have some form of teenager bank account. If so, it should be upgraded automatically to an adult one.

If you are on JSA, use that as proof of address.

As for the voters roll, if you have voted in the past, and haven't removed yourself, then yes, you are still on it.
