    Yes.

HBOS will be next I bet.
  • Went into my local Nat West today to open a step account and was seen promptly and my application went through smoothly. So smoothly in fact that I was offered an advantage account which I declined stating that I wanted a basic no frills account with no overdraft and just a debit card. The assistant I saw didn't rush me and made me feel very at ease and that i was not just another number. She gave me her direct line number and said she would call me after the Christmas holiday to make sure everything that should arrive for me has, and that I have no problems. Can not speak highly enough of the service and courtesy that I received today.
Thankyou very much and well done Nat West......
  • Hi all, need some help.

I'm currently with TSB but living in the overdraft and can't afford my credit card repayments. When i was a student i opened accounts with HSBC, Halifax, Natwest and Yorkshire Bank, which puts all those off limits. What i want is just a basic account with a debit card, direct debit and standing order facilities....the problem is i have no photo i.d. Anyone know of an account i could open in my position?

I opened my Bank of Scotland basic account online. No ID needed. You get electron card and DD facilities.

The poster stated that the Halifax was off-limits, I assume that this would apply for the Bank of Scotland as well?

Try Yorkshire Bank or the Co-op. I have no photo ID either and got accepted at both (at various times)

Try opening an account online/phone with the following banks (they will be able to check your ID/address electronically, which will be easier):
    • Natwest
    • RBS
    • HBOS
    • Co-op

I assume you are on the voters roll.

Get photo ID in the future for other things like proving age, name, and right to work here. Get a driving licence at least, as it's cheaper.

You can get a citizen card a lot cheaper than a driving license. Some people in a financial difficulty position cannot afford the £70 plus the cost of pics.

    http://www.citizencard.com/

The standard cost of a CitizenCard is £12 plus pics.

I doubt whether a Citizens card would be accepted for anything other than proof of age in shops etc
  • Just opened a cashminder account with Co-op....many thanks for you're advice people! Just got to wait for the worst bank in the world TSB to start chasing me for their overdraft now
