I have the Northern Bank Personal Access account which comes with a Maestro and I find their online banking excellent.

I posted earlier on this thread about my problem applying for the BOS easycash account.

I submitted the application and didn't hear anything, no email confirming my application went through. So I called after 10 days and was told they had no record of my application and to apply again online. So I applied online a second time. Same story. A couple days later I went to the local branch and told them my story. They checked and didn't see either of my applications so they gave me a paper application to mail in.

The end result of all of this is that I now have 3 accounts open. The material for each arrived on 3 straight days. I'm not sure what the problem was and why I was kept being told that they had no record of my application. I'm going to close at least one of the three, not sure if I'll keep one or two
  • I've just been to the bank of scotland to change from my Ultimate Reward Account as it was costing me £12.50 a month for very little benefit. My only option was the Reward Current Account which gives me £5 a month if I deposit £1000 in each month. The overdraft charges are now £1.00 per day for overdrafts below £2500 and £2 per day for overdrafts above £2500. I'm now thinking of changing banks to see if I can get a better deal.

I require just a normal current account and also require a £3000 overdraft facility, whcih I have now. I don't want any gimmicks or rewards. I don't have savings to pay off this overdraft but our combined earnings are over £50K per annum. Can anyone suggest a bank and bank account that will suit my requirements and not cost the earth? Thanks

    Regards

Actually, any bank will have bank accounts don't come with rewards. As for the overdraft amount, this will depend on your credit score/history, salary (which is good), and how you maintain your previous accounts. The bank might or might not give you the requested amount.
  • apologies and Im sure my question has already been answered somewhere.

COuld anyone point me in the right direction for the best bank account for people with adverse credit.

Briefly telling the story, we had excellent credit ratings until I was suddenly taken ill just over two years ago, and have not been able to work since. I contacted all my creditors and went on a dmp, this never affected our current account (we dont have any overdraft facilities at all with this account. My husband was made redundent in April and since then there have been a few occasions where we have been charged for bounced DD, approx 6 times and have been charged £30 a time.

the final straw came when I phoned to ask when my new debit card wouold be sent as mu current one runs out this month only to be told that there was aprobe on it, due to the fact I was on a dmp and we had a few bounced DD, eventually they agreed to send me a new card but made me feel terrible.

We need an account where we have a debit card as because of my illness I order shopping etc on line and since my OH was made redundent we pay our mortgage by debit card over the phone becasue there is no set date when our mortgage protection is paid.
We also need an account where we can pay DD and standing orders from and use a cash machine when needed.

Do you think that there is any chance of us getting another account or are we stuck with the cooperative?

I am preparing some money to give to my Mum as a gift in January. She current lives in her overdraft of £1000, so obviously when her monthly wages get paid in it's swollowed up. Now she's faily ok with this but she's never out of the red and this is risky for if she has a mix up with money being paid in or out or simular situation.
I'm looking at giving her £2k (I know, Im a lovely daughter hehe), this would get her out of the red and a month ahead of herself also.
My question is: Would it be best if she closed this account and opened a new one with the money gift or should she just straight out pay the red and keep this account? Whats the best we could do this that would benefit her the most and make the most of the money?

This website will tell you which accounts have debit cards, as well as the facilities that comes with the account: http://www.moneymadeclear.fsa.gov.uk/pdfs/bank_accounts.pdf

You don't have to be stuck with Co-op bank though if you don't want to. The Co-op account has a debit card with it as you may know. However, after the switch over from Electron to Visa Debit, some retailers and other places decline it, as they still recognise it as Electron due to them not updating their databases, despite the card saying Visa Debit.

If you really want to switch, I recommend Barclays. You need to open this account in branch though, with one piece of ID (passport or driving licence). Very easy opening account procedure.

If you want an account that could be opened online, the HBOS Easycash account is suitable, but it only comes with an Electron card. Not sure if your mortgage provider will accept that kind of card.

You could try putting £1000 into a savings account to make use of the good interest rates. Then put the other £1000 to pay off her overdraft. It's a good idea to pay off an overdraft asap. After that, then she won't be owing any money.

As anyone who follows this thread will know, I recently applied for a Natwest Step account.

The account is now up and running, card received and activated and I just need to register for internet banking now. Have to say they've been very professional and helpful as a bank to date (has taken less than a fortnight from start to finish).

Will be closing my Co-op Cashminder and my A&L account in the new year, never going near A&L again, as I've found them to be the pits.... :D
