I applied a week ago for the Bank of Scotland easycash account to get the Visa electron card. I haven't heard anything since submitting the online application. I didn't even get an email confirming they got my application. Is this normal? Should I call to see whats going on or should I wait a couple more days first?
I would give them a call if I were you to see what's going on.
If you really need an account urgently, and they aren't finished processing it, go to another bank to open it. I recommend the Barclays Cash Card Account. It comes with a VISA debit card unlike HBOS who offers an Electron card, has branch access unlike HBOS Easycash Account, and other features like SO/DD and online banking. You can use certain branch facilities with the Easycash Account.
The Barclays account only requires one ID (UK passport or UK drivers licence), and you get the account details on the same day. Card and PIN arrive within the week.
If you don't want Barclays, try the following basic bank accounts, which comes with a debit card:- Natwest Step Account
- RBS Key Account
- LTSB Cash Account
- Co-op Cashminder Account

Forgot to mention in my post that the OP should apply at branch, so that the account is opened on the day with account details.
By the way, since you heard nothing, have you called them back about your data being lost online?0 -
Thanks for the replies. I'm just applying with BOS just for the Visa Electron card, for Ryanair & Easyjet. I already have a current account with Lloyds. So there's no really hurry. Just wanted to make sure that not hearing anything didn't mean that they lost my information. I'll give them a call.0

I was really hoping for an online option as I cant really make it to the branch. I was wondering how easy the process was via the phone... any ideas?
thanks
When I opened mine about 3 years ago I had to visit a branch (there is one in London). It is a good account and might be worth making a trip to visit the branch. (You can make an appointment by phone)
Clydesdale and Yorkshire are in fact the same bank. Yorkshire is actually 'Clydesdale Bank plc trading as Yorkshire Bank'. However whilst very similar the banking products from YB and CB are not identical. The Clydesdale Bank Readycash account allows you to both pay in and withdraw at the Post Office. Unless it has changed the Yorkshire bank version is withdrawals only.
I started with A CB basic account and as time went on upgraded it to a Current Plus account with dual function debit card, then to an account with the full debit/cheque guarantee, then to the Signature (packaged account) and I now have an OD as well.
A lot of the decision making with Clydesdale is still made in branch rather than centrally.0 -
Why does HSBC want to know whether I hold any other bank accounts, if I just want to open a Basic Bank Account?
Really need help.
Thank you,

Not sure but when (during an enquiry phonecall) I told them I had another account elsewhere they terminated the call saying that Basic Bank Accounts were only for people who had no other accounts and therefore I didn't qualify for a HSBC one ... priceless.0 -

I made an online application for the Halifax Easycash account on Monday, the account appeared on my online banking on Wednesday, and I got my Visa Electron card today!
