That account can be opened in branch. Therefore, the accuont is opened immediately with account details.

Hi i've read through some of this thread but it's quite big so wondered if anyone could help.

I need to get away from Barclays, as they're using their right to offset for my Barclaycard debt, but can't get a current account with anyone so basic account it is.

    I will need....

Card that i can use in shops and online
    Full online banking
    Direct debits

On these basic accounts, do transactions take ages to show on online statements? Sure i read this somewhere. Also, can you transfer to other accounts?

Would i be able to leave my Barclays current accounts open until i've cleared my debt? I need to clear £400 overdraft on one, but also am paying for additions active and would like to keep this running. I'd just not be getting my money paid in and i'd transfer the fee over every month along with money to clear overdraft. Is that the way to do it? (clueless!)

Also, with Barclays i have 2 current accounts and i manage my money better this way. Is it ever possible to hold 2 basic accounts and have them both on your online login together? (Just want one for now but i mean for the future).

A full list of basic bank accounts are available here (http://www.moneymadeclear.fsa.gov.uk/pdfs/bank_accounts.pdf). They have the facilities that you want.

Out of the accounts listed on the website, I would recommend Natwest/RBS. I wanted to recommend Barclays, but you want to get away from them. The product is called the 'Cash Card Account'. It's similar to the account you have now, but without the chequebook and overdraft. I've heard that you can have a basic account with them, no matter what kind of situation you are with them. For example, in the bankruptcy board, when a person holds a Barclays current account, and have been undischarged from bankruptcy, they were allowed to open a basic accoun with them.

I think most banks transaction shows up immediately, but not that Co-op though. Read that somewhere on the Bankruptcy board.

Yes, you can transfer money to other accounts.

I think you could leave your Barclays account open, and transfer the money from a basic account to pay for your monthly Additions Active account fee, and pay off your overdraft.

It is possible to hold 2 (or more) basic accounts.

Thanks book12 for all your help. I've applied online for a Natwest Step account, hopefully that's the right one, it says Solo card so not sure how that differs from a Visa Debit in terms of using online/in shops.

Natwest is replacing Solo cards with Visa Debit cards. http://www.natwest.com/personal/current-accounts/g4/cards/yourcard.ashx

Yes, you have applied for the correct account.

As the person mentioned above, you will get a Visa debit card, just like the one you have at Barclays. Solo cards are similar to Visa Electron.

Natwest/RBS has started to change from Solo/Maestro to Visa debit a few months ago.

    Hope it goes well.
