LPG / LPG prices (merged)

Hi,
So I have phoned around and Shell are looking the most competitive. They came in with the best price per litre without need to negotiate at all. Has the 3p per six months cap as above. I think that's what we'll go with.
They mentioned the introductions (£50 for an existing user).0 -
Oops!
1woof has just started a new LPG thread 'Tank uplift charges'. He's been a customer of Shell since 2004.
It looks suspiciously that Shell - like BP, Calor ... -
introduces new clauses and charges which are not in the contract you signed
and/or
ignores clauses that are in the contract you signed.
[I haven't included Flogas because I have not trawled through all the old posts about Flogas to see exactly what they'd done].
Has ANYONE had a good long term relationship with ANY supplier?0 -
Not sure whether it helps anyone but we have just moved into a LPG house and I did the trawling round companies and the best I could barter was with Calor at 37.4ppl (guaranteed for 6 months) with £50 free gas this year and £50 free gas next year.
We are in the N Lincolnshire area , unfortunatley as we have not moved in I have no idea on usage yet. Calor rep reckons around 1.5 - 2 tanks per year. (6 bed house, me and 3 kids)
I did contact other companies, Extra gas were the cheapest and came in at 37.4ppl.
As I had the Calor rep coming I got him to price match with £50 free gas this year and £50 next year. Cannot rise more than 3p in any 6 months and the first 6 months is guaranteed at 37.4ppl.
HTHLife is a rollercoaster.....ya just gotta ride it:whistle:0 -

Below are some of the variations in LPG we have had to take on board during our time with Shell to date. Interestingly one increase occured within the 3 yr contract which was greater than the 2ppl/6month in the contract. We never noticed this until now - so just because it says in your contract ......
Hope of some help although there are some prices missing as still digging out all the invoices!

2005 28ppl

Thanks for the posts. For information we are paying 46.4p per ltr from Calor in Lancashire having gone up from 40.9p last winter and less than 20p per ltr when I moved in 10 years ago. Not signed up for a new contract yet so will be doing some ringing around this afternoon.
If anyone else has their prices to hand put them on here so we can get some visibility of what we should be paying.

Hi, We are shortly coming out of a five year contract with Calor. I contacted all of the major suppliers mentioned on this forum and the best offer I had was a two year agreement with Shell for a 36.9 ppl price, and £60 standing charge for the tank. I have to say that from a service point of view, I have not been able to fault Calor. Using the telemetry system, (which I was advised by Flogas has been found to be unreliable which is why they don't use it), we never really have to worry about ordering a gas supply (just about paying for it!) Therefore, we agreed that if Calor could match the offer we would sign up for a further two year agreement. It wasn't instantly offered, but we have agreed to the terms of £16.90 per day standing charge for the tank and 37.5ppl which is guaranteed for the first six months, and if the price exceeds more than 3.5 ppl in a 3 month period, we can break the contract by giving 6 weeks notice. They have also agreed to give us a £200 gas credit amount. As our next delivery is estimated to be a few days after our current contract expires, they are willing to fill our tank at the current rate which is 31.9 ppl. We think this is probably the best deal we could hope for at this time. BP was offering 38.95 ppl and ExtraFuel 36.94ppl and Countrywide did not supply our area.
Hope this helps.0 -

Extra Fuel's price for this month - September - has just been posted: 39.96, up from 36.94 last month so a big rise.

Obvious advice then for anyone wanting a 'fixed' price contract is to try to get a deal in mid-30s, with a maximum rise of, say, 3p per 6 months .... and be subsidised by all the tens of thousands out there paying way over the odds. What a sick system.
e.g. 36ppl guaranteed for 6months, max rise 3p per 6 months .. gives you a maximum price of 45ppl for last 6 months of the minimum 2 yr contract. Extra Fuel's price at that time? Of course, if the cap is only 3p per 3 months you could end up paying up to 61ppl for the last 3 months of the 2 yrs.
Maybe we should put our spare cash (ha ha) after paying for LPG (ha ha ha) into LPG Futures?0 -

Apologies - I was still writing my post when busybird posted.
I presume your standing charge is 16.90p rather than £16.90 per day.
The Calor contract price could rise to 57.5ppl* for the last 3 months of the 2 yrs. With a very cheap first fill (I hope the tank is nearly empty!) - and £200 'cashback' (presumably staged?) it gets harder to compare this deal. It doesn't look as good as HateLPG's deal with Shell - which they obviously didn't offer you.
How did you manage to get Calor to supply you previously at 31.9ppl, please? Are you next door to a Calor depot?
*apologies if arithmetic wrong0 -
Oh dear, yes I did mean 16.9 pence - which I worked out to being just over the £60 per annum. Yes, I hope our tank is nearly empty. We haven't had a delivery all summer and we use it for cooking so I expect it to be pretty low. The reason we have it at such a good rate currently is due to the five year contract and us kicking up a fuss when they tried to over-ride it a couple of years ago. No, that was the best deal I could get with Shell, but then Calor have agreed to pay £150 up front for the credit and the remaining £50 on the anniversary of the contract. The set price of 37.5 ppl should carry us through much of the winter, which is obviously the worst period for useage - especially as our house is very old with solid walls and no cavities and I have to heat all of the rooms even the empty ones to prevent mould. I think it is the best deal I was going to get.0

Just a quick update on my calls from yesterday.
Calor could/would not improve offer from 43ppl. £60 standing charge. £100 (split in two) for contract signing.
Flogas offered 37ppl fixed for 1st 6 months. £75 standing charge.
Shell offered 36.5ppl with 3p per 6 month max increase (2year contract) dependant on survey of tank which I am moving forward with. £60 standing charge.
Thanks for information provided it helps to know what other people are getting offered.0
