  • thanks all! :j

I'm having a little park on the sofa with my feet up for a bit - had a couple of really busy evenings stripping wallpaper, clearing stuff out of the way and choosing paint samples in DIY shops. Found some beautiful bits in Next - nothing extravagant but some nice homely touches that I wouldn't normally bother with :) Think I have chosen all my colours so am just itching to get everything done and dusted now, and all ready for canine housemates to arrive. It is going to be a busy couple of weeks, no doubt about it!

the damp treatment guy has been today, so I no longer have spongy joists by my kitchen - everything is done, and safe :D the plasterer starts tomorrow

It was our little Brownies Christmas party tonight, and it was just wonderful. I missed it last year as I was so ill, so I was determined to enjoy it with them this year. We spent an evening last week planning all the party games and wrapping their presents, then we hid the presents around the church this evening and they had a little treasure hunt. They were all dolled up in their party frocks (well, one was in her footie kit bless her :D) and everybody had a great time :j I LOVE this part of my life.

Festivities are a bit on hold here - normally I love Christmas, but am struggling with it a bit this year. I am thinking very hard about the so-called Christmas spirit, and so have focussed on making things good for 16 little 7-10 year old girls, and giving some dogs a home, and giving myself a few days off once everything is straight. From 22nd Dec until New Year's Day, I will be walking my dog(s), and generally relaxing. I am in work a couple of days, but when I am at home, it will be strict downtime.

If I can get a good way along with the painting this weekend, I will get my tree up :) I'm going to buy a wreath for the door too - never bothered before, but want to make my home as welcoming as I can for when I get home on these flipping chilly nights!
  • afternoon all,

things progressing well on the home front thanks to some massive help from my lovely dad :)

I've not got as far as I had hoped to get by last night, but the reason why has just become apparent - I am being struck down by the lurgy as we speak. I've cancelled counselling and teaching (both due tonight) and will be heading home asap after work, via the supermarket if I can face it as my cupboards are doimaking like Mother Hubbard's, and I am craving something good and tasty and healthy.

Not sure if I will make it into work tomorrow as am feeling really ropey.

I planned out all the painting/prepping last night - and surprisingly enough this plan did not allow for being ill! but I am going to have to give in. I have fought off 3 minor colds so far, clearly I have been warming up for a big one instead :( fingers crossed for getting better pronto. back soon x
  • Hi LHG,

It looks like your body is telling you it's time to slow down and take a break to revitalise itself.

I really hope the lurgy passes soon.

    Take care

  • thanks both - left work early yesterday as I couldn't keep my eyes open and didn't fancy that through rush hour traffic

made it home safe anyway, and did a quick visit to the supermarket for restorative goodies. I haven't eaten properly in ages so decided some comfort food was in order. Made chicken fajitas last night (loads of peppers and onion so some veg at least!) - cheated by buying ready diced chicken but bizarrely it was cheaper than the non-diced stuff

Tonight I have bangers, mash, Nigel Slater's onion gravy (mouth watering now just thinking about it) and a chunk of broccoli about the size of my head :D

    plus biscuits

watched Harry Potter DH Part 2 yesterday when I got in which mum had lent me on DVD - I hardly ever watch a film all the way through at home, but it was a good thing to do as I was devoid of energy :)

I'm flaked at home today on the sofa - work is quiet so don't need to fret too much about it. I will doze, watch tv, lurk on here, nibble a bit. and that is all.

I just found your diary. Wow you deserve that username.

I love the £100 envelope idea, I think I might nick that one if you don't mind.

Off to read some more with a cup of tea.

  • thanks parsniphead, I nicked the envelope idea off hypno :D :rotfl: works well for me so far!

So. After 2 1/2 days in hiding from the lurgy, I am back at work today feeling much brighter. Still a bit under the weather but the spirit is less deflated thank goodness.

The plastering is coming along really well, and if i press on carefully (taking utmost care not to overdo it!), my new living room and the hallway should be done for when the dogs arrive next week.

The harp room will take a bit longer, but I can shut the door on this so can work on it as and when I need to once the dogs are here.

Christmas shopping has happened in dribs and drabs, and I am mostly bought up. I was hoping to have a little Christmas shopping trip in town to get some nice last minute bits as I like to partake of the atmosphere, but I don't think I will manage this now - I'm away over the weekend for my gran's 80th, and I am really not one for the true last minute-ness of Christmas Eve. So I will get some nice jammies in the supermarket tonight instead :D and get a few bits near where I work as the little high street there is lovely.

Things seem to be under control on the money front, the cash is there waiting for the plasterer and will be there after payday for the window guys - who are now coming in the new year instead.

So, by the end of January, the majority of the inside of my house should be looking gorgeous. Once the spring comes I will get on with tarting up the outside, and then should I need/want to, I can get it up for sale. I think I will be staying, I would certainly like to stay, but got a lot of financial pondering to do before that decision is made for definite.

Oh - and forgot to say, went back for another visit to the kennels last weekend to see the boy - he is just beautiful and I am so excited. He has become more and more soppy with me each time I have seen him now :) we had a lovely cuddle with his head on my shoulder and my little heart melted. Best of all, he will be having a friend. I will pop a picture up soon - a bit tricky to see as they are both jet black :rotfl:

This time next week, my home life will be very very different!
  • Morning all,

Things are dipping again, I am still ill and have just made the difficult decision to miss my Gran's 80th. I am just not up to it on many levels. I know she will be disappointed and this is very hard. But I have failed the Troy Bayliss test (my own equivalent of the £10/£20/£50 note test) and won't be moving far from the sofa today.

In all the chaos at home I have lost my Internet wireless key from my laptop (still works on my phone though thank goodness!) so posting won't be quite as easy. I'm still lurking though :)

Can't wait to feel better, get the house straight and get the doggies. Those are the only non-work objectives this week! I'm planning a new diary too and pondering re. the blog too - really looking forward to getting properly stuck into that over Xmas.

In the mean time, I am shutting down for regeneration :)
