I am not sure what counselling is available for you but would it be worth considering it, especially if you're finding it a strain on your relationship?

Welcome to the board and well done in taking the step and asking for help. The envelope system is a good one. Why not go and make a list of the food thats in 1 of your cupbaords? then see if you can live for a week just on that and whats in the fridge and freezer. bet you can! give yourself a gold star if you achieve it. is it just food you over pend on or other things too, like clothes and presents?0

Well done on asking for help and lots of the above is great advice. Challenge yourself to some no spend days and you will hopefully get more of a buzz when you achieve it than you do when you buy things. Ignore the spelling comment. Right then, heres a stratagy which might be useful. Go to the kitchen and have a look in fridge, cupboards and freezer. Can you put together a meal for tomorrow, or even better all tomorrows meals? eg cereal and milk, tinned spagetti on toast, an fruit salad, boiled potatoes peas and meat?0

You need to get out of the mindset that it is "luck" or that you "can't" do things.
Set yourself goals, keep your will, and do them. It is all down to you - other people aren't lucky or special, there is no amazing plan, you just must have the will.
If you make yourself sandwiches for work and do not buy on the move, you WILL save money.
And if you look at a 'ready made' sandwich and balk at the price, you are starting to get into the right mindset.
I often buy full loaves of bread and a pack of meat and make myself a sandwich, still comes out cheaper and I can give the food to local homeless or save for later if I have room to carry it etc.
It will carry you well in life, not just in this pursuit but anything that life throws at you. You are the the most important person in your life, and you have the power to change almost anything about it.Said Aristippus, “If you would learn to be subservient to the king you would not have to live on lentils.”
Said Diogenes, “Learn to live on lentils and you will not have to be subservient to the king.”0 -

100% agree-at first you may find your homemade sandwiches different because they will not be full of salt and rubbish but you will learn to love your home made fare! I used to buy lunch everyday and spend a fortune. Now I never buy lunch and last time I forgot my lunch I bought a 40p tin of soup and a roll for 17p!! 3 years ago I would have gone to pret and spent £8. Soon you will change your mindset and it starts to fall into place!!
Surely once you've done your storecupboard challenge for a couple of weeks you will be in a good place to get bargains - your work? Can you get yellow labels/whoopsies and freeze?Since starting again after beanie: June 2016: Child development DVDs, Massive Attack tickets. July: Aberystwyth trip, hotmilk nightie.
