Bioflow (or other) magnetic collar & beds, glucosamine, glucsoamine with chrondroitin (and the various veterinary based similar products), cod liver oil, salmon oil, oily fish, devils claw, green lipped muscle, rosehip, vitamin C (essentially what Ester C is and other vitamins B & E supposedly helps CDRM dogs for example) hydrotherapy, accupuncture, canine massage (also google myotherapy, galen therapy) all have their fans & successes so you can only see what works best in practice for you & your dog really.

Glucosamine is found naturally in the body (humans & animals) & can be used for your cat & some of the others above may also help. Have a look at http://www.glucosamine-arthritis.org/arthritis-pets/feline-hip-dysplasia.html

    http://www.ivet.co.uk/veterinary/pets-and-arthritis/

Good luck to each of you
  • How do people give Ester C to their cats?

I use a powdered Vit C as sodium ascorbate, and it has a very slight salty taste, not tart citric like some Vit C. I mix all the supplements into a teaspoon of creme fraiche and Nellie laps it up quite happily.

I know absolutely nothing about gerbils, sorry! All I can say is that just because a supplement is safe for one kind of animal does NOT make it safe for another.

You can simply crush & / or hide any supplement tablets in food if they wont swallow them

You don't say what is wrong with your gerbil but there is a forum for gerbil owners who may be able to help you http://gerbilforum.proboards.com/
  • The gerbil is dying of old age basically. Since just before Christmas, I have lost 3 of my 4 gerbil boys all from old age.

The first one died without warning, the 2nd & 3rd I had to have put to sleep & it's looking like I will have to start considering euthanasia for the remaining gerbil.

So, Unfortunatly my mind is with my gerbil at the moment, although I know I do need to start researching feline arthritis.

Can I just say my dog Lucy had problems with stiffness on and after walks...she's 8, and weighs 40kg (golden retriever cross).

It got to the point where she was reluctant to even go for a walk but by the time I got her to the vet she had loosened up a bit and the vet didn't see her at her worst.

I got her some Pedigree Joint Care chews, costing about 50p a day - a pack of 7 costs about £3.75 for large dogs, bit less for smaller dogs.

The pack info says you will see a difference in 6 weeks. Well, I could not believe the difference in Lucy. She's like a puppy again. Running, jumping, chasing balls...gets from lying down to standing, no trouble at all.

They contain omega 3, glucosamine, green lipped mussel and chondroitin.

Please, if your dog is struggling, do give these a try.
