sure .. all in MY mind ;)

I just imagine her getting up ok, walking and running ok....with no Metacam (stopped it for her, was making no difference)

    :D

    thanks Paddypaws

2 of my friends dogs are on Ester C for 2 days now, will compare the notes soon.....

Well, Zara is off metacam (was making no difference at all so there was no point) since I got the bioflow collar (last week Saturday) and Ester C (last Tuesday).

She is not limping at all, I mean not at all - after run, when getting up, when walking up the stairs - not at all.

As far as things could be in MY mind - they could not be in hers, surely she does not know what the extra collar is for and why she has it on 24/7 or what 2 tablets I put down her throat every morning (2 x 1000 mg Ester C).

She did not have upset tummy from Ester C at all and she seems generally much happier.

I still give her the seraquin and fish oil capsules but she does not show to be in any discomfort.

Not sure if it is the collar ort the ester c or a combination of both but SOMETHING works for my girl :)

I am SO glad that Zara is feeling better! I have used a similar combination for Nellie....starting with fish oil and glucosamine which showed a slight improvement, adding the collar with immediate result and the vit c which pretty much got rid of the limping.
Even better, none of this has any negative impact on the animal....Zara is a young dog and the thought of her being on Metacam or any other powerful drug for life would be pretty worrying to me. Please do mention this to her vet as they are often sceptical about these natural cures!
How are your friends' dogs doing who were also going to try these remedies?

    Thanks paddypaws.

I will be seeing the vet this week when he is back. As I have mentioned before, Zara's vet is an orthopeadic specialist and based on her Xray few weeks ago he said that we should try Rimadyl - did not want to put Zara on Rimadyl as heard some bad stories about it so he put her on Metacam. He said that it is very likely she will need surgery very soon.

So I am absolutely over the moon to see how much better she is....

Will contact my friend later on and see how her dog is doing - she did not get the collar, jusr Ester C and she is giving him 2000mg too. Her dog is GS too and similar weight to Zara....She started him on Ester C 2 days after me so will see.

That's excellent news about Zara, gettingready - I'm so glad to hear she's doing so well.

I'm now thinking of trying my dog on Ester C - do you mind if I ask how you found out how much to give Zara, please?

    Many thanks.

I think the dose is listed in one of the links posted at the start of the thread. Vitamin C is water soluble so it is near impossible to overdose.....the only worry is that too high a dose might cause loose bowels, although Ester C is generally a very gentle form.

Meerkat - the dose in the first article says 2000mg were used in the trials - but they do not mention the size of the dog.

In another article, where Ester C is sold, they mention 250mg per 10kg of dog weight so according to thet for Zara's size (40kg of a dog) it should be 1000mg. The Ester C from Boots comes in 1000mg per tablet. I give zara 2 tablets, so 2000mg per day. Started her on 1 tablet as was worrying about tummy upset but as Paddypaws said, Ester C does not seem to upset dog's stomach so broght her up to 2 tablets (2000mg) per day.
