Make do and mend weekday on CH4

Best bits from Make Do and Mend for me are the cookery ones. I've threatened OH with the meatballs with liver :rotfl:
Super Scrimpers last night was the best one so far IMO - I love that student - she is one savy young lady
Extreme Couponing - me and OH watched this having dinner tonight...OMG how do they keep up with it all? We saw the first two episodes and the couple with the 7 children who are doing it to so they can all go to college are so admirable and the woman on programme two who is a super mom - I could see their motivation. Bit fuzzy on why the other two were doing it as it seemed almost like an obsession with them - 6 hours to prepare for a shopping trip? 4 x a week? ....... I shall be making more use of coupons over here and I loved the idea of the grocery store loyalty card which automatically takes off all the savings for you....But I'm going to say this once, and once only, Gene. Stay out of Camberwick Green0 -
I love this series too. I think C4 missed a trick by putting it on during daytime TV. It's a much better programme than Superscrimpers, they should have stuck Superscrimpers in the daytime slot instead.
Also, as it's in Cardiff this week, I'm interested in the shops they visit as it's only a couple of junctions down the M4 from me.0 -
we love make do and mend it is really inspiring and encouraging.:j0

I'm loving the Make do and Mend series but I was bemused at being told (a) how wonderful it is to forage for free mushrooms and (b) that it's dangerous and you'd probably poison yourself!
there are loads of things they could usefully have foraged without endangering life
midday is probably the worst possible time to schedule it... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

My 10-year-old DD hates superscrimpers, even she has suggested things people on it could do to save money :rotfl:
However Make Do and Mend is a whole different kettle of fish! Its the first thing she wants to watch when she gets in from school & has asked to try a number of things on it, except the tripe which I'm wholeheartedly agreeing with her on:rotfl:
She also watched some of the Extreme couponing and loved that and promptly asked me whether I had any vouchers to use:money: She also seems to be promoting moneysaving to her school friends. Oh how I'd love to be a fly on the wall when she does that
Creeping back in for accountability after falling off the wagon in 2016.Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!0 -
I've got to agree with you all - why is Make do and Mend on TV when I'm at work - they should swap it with the Scrimpers. I've been watching it on 4OD but it's not ideal. Scrimpers has improved since the first airing but could still be better
If Make do and Mend was on at 8pm it would benefit so many more people.....why is it on in at lunchtime?

Love your daughter nicki. What important life skills she's learning.
With make do and mend I think that they are looking to impress in the short term, but in the long term some of their makes won't stand the test of time. For example the sand pit made out of a bookcase and the neckless made with conkers.0 -
rather than them expecting people to follow what they're doing exactly, I'm assuming their aim is simply to make people think about possibilities, I'll never have enough conkers to make a necklace
but I loved the idea and its easily adapted with some large beads or even marbles.
I agree about the sandpit Rachel though I think if they'd lined it with some decent plastic it might last for a couple of years
Nicki your daughter is brilliant!... don't throw the string away. You always need string!
