Fuels going up again!!!!!!!

Cycling to work for some just inst feasible, so they have to drive or car share which involves money.
The Government were supposed to have taken 1p a litre of the fuel at the pump but we have seen a sharp increase in recent weeks & Petrol is around the 133.9p & Diesel is about 141.9p in my area!.......
I dont believe the other members were saying they couldnt afford the fuel (Petrol/Diesel) it was more a point of hitting the motorists the easiest & the hardest as some of us have no choice but to drive to work.
Im only offering my opinion to a subject that will always be split. You can't be lost if you don't know where you're going.0 -

All other policies would be by referendum or picking the best ideas from the other parties - or from internet forums.
:rotfl:
Which taxes would you increase to pay for the duty cut?The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -
I'd vote for a party that chose policies by referendum if only to illustrate why the current bias against "the elite in politics" is ridiculous.
We vote for the elite in politics because we don't want the Sun dictating how our country is run.
You'd have anarchy within weeks.Said Aristippus, “If you would learn to be subservient to the king you would not have to live on lentils.”
Said Diogenes, “Learn to live on lentils and you will not have to be subservient to the king.”0 -

As I said, scrap Trident or have a tax on the banks if that doesn't make up the shortfall.
When fuel was £1 a litre, the duty was lower than it is now, so what taxes have been reduced to compensate for the 30% or so extra that is being generated now?
The government is raking it in on fuel duty and doing what exactly with the cash?
Paying redundancy money to all those people who are being made redundant possibly.
It does appear to be true that most people bleat on about things without actually doing anything about them.
Personally I've got myself a more economical car, car share and work from home, as well as moaning about it on a forum.

Who voted for Gordon Brown? Elite? Selling the gold reserves at under $300 an ounce when it's now over $1,500 yeah genius that was.
The current political system in this country produces short termism that is not the best way to run the country, or even a corner shop.
Oh, bit off topic now.

If more people cycled to work, less demand, prices would fall.
Unless of course the UK government decided to ramp up taxes.
In theory yes as demand would drop but the reality is if the oil price falls then OPEC reduce production to reduce the supply and that would counteract the reduction in demand.
It's not a "normal" market, more like a cartel.
That's why the oil companies and the major producers keep lying about how much stuff is left, when I was at school in the 1980s I was taught oil would run out by the year 2010, in about 30 years time, now we're told it will run out in 2040, which is about 30 years time, funny that.
Buy shares in oil companies is my advice. Apart from BP.:A0 -

I could walk to work as its only 4 miles but I have no intention of doing so as I love driving so I will pay whatever it cost really. I dont smoke and very rarely drink so petrol is my 1 vice, good job my Camaro is long gone as at one stage in winter it was managing 8mpg LOL (it was leaking a bit at the time but we could not find out where from)Totally Debt Free & Mortgage Free Semi retired and happy0 -

But millions of people voted for just that, only last year. The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -

What wondrous future do you see for us in your crystal ball, Oh Mystical Dave? The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -

I don't care either way. People cling on to their entitlements; if you can afford petrol, buy it. If you can't, don't. Not much sense moaning about it.
I know people who hire cars when they genuinely need them and cycle/public transport otherwise. Saves them a ton.
You are, again, ignoring the economic principle of supply and demand and its effect on prices. The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0
