Fuels going up again!!!!!!!

Get a bike and get fit while you are at it.
80% of people don't even need to drive to work.
We are a lazy nation who want to fall out of a car door to door and make needless journeys daily.
Now it's getting tough and will get worse. Pay up or pedal....
You haven't thought this through have you? The price of oil and fuel affects most things people buy. Most people will be worse off as a result of fuel costs even if they don't drive. Perhaps your smugness is a tad premature.0 -

Worldwide, something like 40-50% of all oil is used in transport.
I would hazard a guess that a lot of this is personal automobile use.
So yes, if everyone cycled more, we'd at least delay fuel rises.
Needs global action though.Said Aristippus, “If you would learn to be subservient to the king you would not have to live on lentils.”
Said Diogenes, “Learn to live on lentils and you will not have to be subservient to the king.”0 -

Actually we'd probably cause huge fuel rises, because the government would still want the same amount of tax, and would need to levy it on a smaller sales volume.0 -
Possibly.
I think it's a bit rash to just assume that straight off, there are too many variables involved.
NHS spending would change (possibly not reduce, end of life care is expensive) as there would be less road fatalities.
Highways spending would probably reduce due to less road weathering.Said Aristippus, “If you would learn to be subservient to the king you would not have to live on lentils.”

You ain't seen nothing yet, we all know that increased fuel prices means an increase in the price of goods eventually due to increased distribution/manufacturing costs but contemplate what could happen if the E.U. get their way and abolish the tax concessions associated with red diesel.

Yes but if you're no longer spending £300, £400 or £500+ a month for a car, running cost, insurance, maintenance etc.....you can afford the minimal additional costs associated to other general purchases.
Have you thought that through?0 -
When I started driving, 1977, petrol was 69p a gallon, around 15p a litre and I took home £15 a week, so if I spent all my income on petrol I would get 100 litres. At todays prices 100 litres would cost me about £140, less than 2 days money for me.0
