Petrol at Carlisle was 136.9p today and at Manchester just off the motorway it was 135.9p. Just driven home from Worcestershire and driving north of Carlisle was a breeze, empty motorway AND sunshine
We are driving up to Thurso and then getting the ferry to Stromness on Orkney. On the way to Thurso, we'll make a note of where the last petrol station is. I know that petrol on Orkney is (understandably) expensive so I don't want to fill up there to come home if there's a considerably cheaper station not far down the road on the mainland.
Can't wait to go.Don't really care about the petrol bill - nothing we can do about that and the holiday will be worth it.

There is a shell garage on the way into Thurso, RHS as your driving in, near the cross roads I think. Last time I went was 2 years ago but doubt anything has changed much. Did manage to get from Inverness to Pitlochry on fumes the last time :eek:0 -

The Shell in Penrith near J40 is usually always at least 1p cheaper than any garages in the area, at least for petrol.0 -
Why do all petrol stations still use the ridiculous .9 at the end of their prices?
Do they think we are daft enought to think 139.9p is closer to 139p than 140p?
If they rounded it up though it would cost me an extra 6p to fill up from empty!"A nation of plenty so concerned with gain" - Isley Brothers - Harvest for the World0 -

The same principle that has led to decades of everything being priced £1.99 and not £2.00 and cars being priced £8999 and not £9000 - we see the first number as the important one.
I know you'll probably tell me that you see £1.99 as £2.00 and aren't susceptible to such marketing ploys, but in all seriousness if this didn't work they wouldn't do it.:cool:0 -
£1.35.7!!!!!!! Blimey I feel positively flush after filling up today!0

I paid £1.509/l on Monday.....ouch.0

£1.35.9 paid today at Morrisons but with 6p off a litre. Big deal! The pound is strong against the dollar and the price of crude is coming down, so why are we STILL paying so much?0

Just to annoy you.
I can't wait till it hits £2.00 a litre, even if its just to see you hit your keyboard in rage, struggling to see the screen through the tears.
