:eek:I remember as a kid using my mums sanitary pads for my dolls hospital beds. Should have seen her face. Also Id use my knickers to put on my dolls, arms and legs in with a bit of ribbon to tie the waist.0

When I was a kid I loved having a messy room because it was *my* mess. It was the only space in the whole house I could do with whatever I liked. It's hard work being a kid being told what to do all the time and being constantly monitored. Some times not sweating the small stuff is okay, especially if your kids are doing well and school, trying hard and behaving well otherwise. Apart from the mouldy cat food though :rotfl: I'd definitely draw the line there.:A :heartpuls June 2014 / £2014 in 2014 / £735.97 / 36.5%0

This thread makes me laugh.
I have 7 children (yes 7!, aged 3, 6, 8, 11, 13, 15, 17) so the bedroom thing is a real issue in our house. But have come up with a simple punishment for the older children : The router/electric gets turned off to their room (we are wired in). We have an old house but with new wiring so different parts of the house have its own trip board.
I will ask once, perhaps twice, for the room to be tidied. If not the electric gets turned off. No TV, no console, no radio.
Never before have I seen looks of folorn.
I know its not an option for most, but it really works for me!

I have 9, similar ages to yours actually (19, 16, 15, 13, 12, 10, 8, 6 and 8 months).. and this only works on the older ones.. At 6, 8 and 10 as they don't have access to pc's etc in their rooms
DD2 is on a last warning re. homework.. she gets 1 more detention and she loses lappy for a month.
The younger ones I stand in the doorway with a binbag and they scream and cry and run about the room like loonies putting everythng away.. we are having a grand tidy over the easter holidays before my SPD gets really bad (no10 due in October) That includes my room too cos that is also a pit.
I have the girls room to decorate as soon as the guttering is replaced and the wall replastered.. this weeks job is ringing roofers
I have got possibly 75% of their toys stashed in the loft which I was going to go through this summer but it looks like that will now be impossible so will have to be done next summer instead..
We also do 10 minute tidies and picking up a set number of things.. and one piece of lego doesn't count! it has to be bigger than your hand.. We do colours too.. one gets blue, one green, one pink etc... or one gets clothes, one books and one toys.. that adds a competetive element..
The boys lose power.. no consoles, no internet.. and no food... I also have been known to tell DS3 I will cut his hair and DS2 will have a shower twice a day for a week!!
Right now I need the baby to go to sleep so I can fold laundry!LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -

I find the little ones really good at tidying their rooms. We are fortunate that each child has their own room, I think the little ones see the woeful expressions of their older sisters and just comply.
Actually, there should be a thread for large familes!

It must be great having a large family. Im from one of five and the only girl. I sometimes think about what it would be like to have more children as I love kids but circumstances would not allow.
My eldest has had his computer connection turned off when he has not done what we have asked. Its rare he ever misbehaves so we are lucky as he is so laid back. Daughter is good in the main just messy.
Iv bought a book on storage ideas as our house although big, has little built in storage, unlike the newer houses. I suppose they had little need for lots of storage in the 1900s . Imagine if they saw the amount of stuff we now hoard.
I try to get rid of things but it can be hard and I find myself looking at an item and thinking I may need it in the future. Of course I never do. Ill have to get Aggie and Kim in to sort stuff,lol.0 -
My house was built in 1890 and has 1 built in cupboard in the bedroom which I am assuming was meant for bedding or coats or something I was introducd to the delights of Ikea last year so we have more storage than we know what to do with and even more stuff... But I am decluttering slowly but surely!
Going through each of the childrens cupboards this week and then I am putting away all my clothes that I hoped would fit this summer that I couldn't wear last summer as they won't fit this year either, in fact I will be getting rid of a lot of it I think.. I need a serious bit of weight loss going on after this baby arrives I still had a stone from having the last one
The children now hate me.. if I go upstairs I take a binbag.. fill it and bin it... and I am not discriminating between new stuff old stuff, books, toys, clothes, his, hers whatever.. if it is on the floor it is deemed rubbish therefore bin food! I am hated more than a politician!LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -

Thanks, I am well aware of that - and I'm guessing skips and naan bread prob aren't great for her either. We don't actively give her chocolate, or anything that may make her ill, howver she has been known to snaffle the odd dropped crumb or two before they can be picked up.Feb 2015 NSD Challenge 8/12JAN NSD 11/16
