There has to be a better alternative.

Change Banks - thats what Im definitely going to do if the App that HSBC is apparently intending to launch in October does away with the Secure/Invisibility Key.. any recommendations for preferential/good experience with online banking? I know first direct only have two steps (one a numerical figure the other a personal question/answer) and NO secure Key to logging in which is really secure apparently, this SERIOUSLY appeals to me.

On a related note Im getting married this month, so as it is HSBC telebanking exchange workers have been taking a massive hammering from me everyday trying to manage my money flow (I even went overdrawn by [ok, the not so great sum] of £8! this last weekend for the first time in years because of not being able to see my money!). Im 100% definitely going to change banks after my marriage if the HSBC log in process doesnt change before then.

As somebody who only goes anywhere with a wallet and a set of keys, just how am I supposed to carry this thing around all the time ?

Mine is tucked into my purse. My partner's is on his key ring.

It's not that big. From the complaints on here anyone would think it was the size of a brick!
Before you ask, yes, I work for a bank, but no, I didn't get a bonus!

If it is on your car keyring, then it is quite annoying having it knocking or brushing your knee all the time while driving. One of the reasons I chucked the Tesco keyring card.
  • TSB sent these out on trial several years ago - I refused to use it and said I would change banks if they imposed this system on me. They changed something on my account set-up so it no longer asked for the key, and I'd been happlily using their online banking with dual passwords ever since.
My partner uses HSBC, and there was no choice to opt out, so she is closing her account after 40 years and moving to TSB.
We already have to carry too many cards and other gizmos around - adding another one for each bank we deal with is not an option.
Secure cards are no more secure than dual passwords and if becomes lost, broken or stolen you cannot access your account unless you have a phone handy and call them.
Remember that we were told chip and pin was 100% secure?
Manage your passwords properly and security should not be a problem.
  • Mine arrived today

Seems a bit flimsy - the Barclays one is of better build quality

Also can't use someone elses as serial number is linked to your account and your pin is set into your own one

I hate it with a passion. I believe they should have implemented them to do transfers and make payments only. I should have at least read access to my internet banking without going through the cumbersome logon process and carrying around the secure key.

I was in a situation the other day where I'd overnighted at a friend's the night before and hence had a different bag with me (without my secure key). I needed to get on and couldn't. I am used to logging on to my internet banking several times a day (especially as part of my DFW ambition) just to see where I'm at, check paymentas have arrived, transactions have cleared, make sure I'm not going to go overdrawn, send a little over to savings, maybe pay a little off a credit card etc etc.

Lol, how close is your ignition to your knees in your car? I've got almost a foot of room!
