Maybe you sit further from the steering wheel. I fear we may have wandered ever so slightly off topicDecember 2005 TOTAL DEBT at its worst - [STRIKE]£20,596[/STRIKE]

Could you gaffer tape the device onto the back of a mobile phone ? Failing that use chewing gum or double sided sticky tape. Perhaps they should offer prizes for the most innovative integration with an existing hand-held object.

J_B.
Perhaps they should scrap the idea as a bad job.
I'm not registering mine on principle. I will be lodging a complaint with the bank, and am currently looking for a new bank.0 -
Well the horizontal digits on mine went kaput this morning. Can't have had it more than a couple of months.
Very poor flimsy design.
Glad I moved most of my banking away from them.0 -
I hate it, I'd change banks too if Martin's advice wasn't to stick with current accounts you've had for a long time as it looks good your credit files. I feel a bit stuck.
I just wish you could log on and look at your balances and transactions without it. I wouldn't mind if it was only needed to make payments like other banks use theirs.December 2005 TOTAL DEBT at its worst - [STRIKE]£20,596[/STRIKE]

Well, spat my dummy yesterday. Went into town to the main branch and asked at the desk for a replacement to be ordered. Guy couldn't do it, I needed to see one of the loiterers that hang around nowadays. They then told me I have to ring the awful telephone banking and provided me with the number. Supposedly I need to de-activate one key before they issue the next.
I did them I wouldn't be needing the number as I won't be phoning them. What I would be doing is closing my account. I'm not prepared to have to go through this rigmarole every 6 weeks when the damn thing breaks yet again.
In process of transferring stuff over to my first direct account. I hope they hold off their ideas for a similar system for some time yet.0 -
I hate the b*** thing, been using internet banking for years & its more of a faff now, I also wouldn't dare take the 'secure key' anywhere else in case it got lost/broken.
I find it fiddly to use too, so goodness knows how some people manage.
I used to use phone banking more, till I had to talk to foreigners, instead of nice Yorkshire folk.
I really can't see how it can make my account more secure, I am sure people could pick up on the signals if they wanted, as they can do with chip & pin.(still hate that too, try & use cash when I can).
I also hate the way my second nearest branch has been renovated, with a wall of machines facing you as you go in. They could have expanded the counter area, but no, they had to create more private rooms.
they are the only bank where i live though so it's hard to change:(:(:( is how i feel

You could always try First Direct which is a member of HSBC and you can use there branches for deposits and withdrawals, but they have much better customer service.0

unfortunately I don't have enough income to transfer to first direct, I've just double checked and looks like it would cost me £10 a month :rotfl:On the whole I've been happy with HSBC to be fair. Any problems have been sorted out quickly & reasonably, and when in the past I got charged for going overdrawn they refunded me straight away/cancelled the charges (and this was way before MSE days!).

They seem to have had a big internal shake-up with regards to customer service. I recently stormed in to a branch after being charged £25 to keep my existing overdraft! I wasn't asking for a higher, or even lower overdraft, I didn't request a change, they just charged me as part of the annual review of my long standing overdraft. I was furious, however I had the best customer service experience - the charge was immediately reversed, the guy I spoke to gave me his personal business card with email address and said if I had any similar problems in future to contact him directly. I think I have been identified as a potential mortgage customer
(little do they know!)
I've just got back from 4 days overseas where obviously I was without access to my internet banking because of this stupid security key which I neglected to take with me. Grrrrr! Lots of catching up to do with data entry into my budget spreadsheet today!December 2005 TOTAL DEBT at its worst - [STRIKE]£20,596[/STRIKE]
