Not really making any arguments, I'm just saying that companies like Subway which have slogans like "eat fresh" but then bring in frozen meat are lying to the public. How is that 'fresh'? It's defrosted. You point out that the meat cannot be transported around the country unless it's frozen. Then Subway shouldn't have "eat fresh" as their slogan.

Subway sell sandwiches, they're not a butcher.

The sandwich is freshly made, you see?

If a butcher used "eat fresh" and used frozen meat, that would be a different matter...

Used to work in Burger King. They flame grill the burgers and if it is "peak time" they grill loads and then just keep them in a hot plate. When the burger is taken from the hot plate, the burger is put together (we never used to wear gloves, just washed our hands) and then the burger is wrapped up in the paper. We then used to microwave for 15 seconds to make sure it was hot.

    Always been done like that.

If McDonalds used real tomatoes and onions on their burgers like BK do, I'd eat there more often.

    - not that it then endures being chucked into a microwave by some spotty idiot. That's deceptive, IMO.

Not that you're stereotyping or anything...

In my youth it was a rare treat to eat at Burger King. The food had a great taste. But a few months ago when I ordered a burger from there, I watched with disgust as the 'chef' (term used very loosely), with no gloves on, picked up seperate components of the burger and microwaved them, then put it in a bag with a few chips and presented it to me. Being British and therefore willing to put up with anything (why can't we be more like the Americans?), I accepted it and took it home. My question is, when the hell did they start microwaving the burgers? And what was with the moron who didn't even use gloves? I haven't been back since and don't plan to. The reason I'm banging on about it now is that I saw a Burger King advert recently which, if believed, would make you think that trained chefs carefully flame-grill the beef instead of the harsh reality of some spotty yoof chucking it into the microwave for a few seconds.

Now, I would say avoid Burger King, but I don't know if the practice of microwaving is carried out at all of their stores, so I'm unwilling to give a blanket Avoid. If your local store flame-grills the patties then go ahead and eat there, but if you see them reach for the microwave then just walk out and go somewhere else as the food tastes like crap when they do that!

Hilarious - you genuinely thought that every burger ever ordered in Burger King was plucked raw from the packet and flame grilled individually to order? How would that work when its busy! As far as I know (and as others have said) the burgers are flame grilled somewhere offsite then simply heated up on demand.

Essentially, what you're complaining about is the advertising for Burger King giving you a slightly false impression of the cooking process. Which, frankly, is every advert ever in the world. They're clearly not going to portray the reality of a Burger King are they? They're selling a concept, an idea, an experience.

You're an ad execs dream demographic, one who sees an advert and believes everything portrayed within it.

Strangely enough my Daughter WORKS in Bk at the present time and she knows nothing about burgers being microwaved......

For all the people who are claiming that they DO microwave them....do you actually WORK in a BK?

Bosseyed, I think that's a bit harsh. I don't believe every advert I see. In fact, I'd say I'm generally a good deal more cynical than the average person when it comes to believing companies or adverts. I did think Burger King outright flame-grilled all their burgers instead of microwaving them - I guess that's a bit silly given what people have said about time constraints when the restaurant gets busy. I guess I just assumed their industrial cooking equipment was capable of cooking them really quickly.

Eh? I said in the opening post that I saw the 'chef', without gloves, using a microwave to heat the burger.

Burger King is disgusting, I would never eat one of their burgers as they are greasy and vile. I used to like the beanburgers but I don't think they do them anymore.
They do a veggie burger, I can't remember if it is a bean one. I think so and it was nice because it wasn't spicy.

While we are ranting about these places, I'd like to state my annoyance that veggie = hot and spicy. It's like they can't think of any actual flavour that isn't meat so they make spicy to disguise the lack of flavour.

She should really open her eyes. The standard procedure in a BK is for the flame grilling to happen, then the patties are kept warm until needed (if necessary and the store isn't busy), the burger is assembled and then microwaved for 15 or so seconds. EVERY BK does this :)
