yes she can.. the minipill, implant, patches, depo/injection and mirena all contain hormones and are fine for use with breastfeeding.LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -

Yup, I had my son almost 13 years ago and they asked me if I wanted the depo shot before I had even left the hospital because the idea that you can't get pregnant whilst breastfeeding is bunk. It's not easy having a good time. Even smiling makes my face ache.0 -
Take a deep breath & sit down & take it in....slowly! It many not be such a bad thing you know. As PP mentioned your TC will rise, child benefit (all that it is) will rise, and you already have the baby stuff. Plenty of stuff to be had cheap & free if you look for it (like a double buggy). Try freecycle or Ebay in a few months. Also you may decide to stop at 2 kids & then you've done all the hard work & having 2 close together is sometimes hard work (I had 2 girl in 22 months) they'll grow up together playing (and arguing!) & you get your lives back on track. Think about the future as in a few yrs time when both will be in school full time, your partner can go back to work part time, & life will be stable again.
Don't think of it as a bad thing. Children are a special gift.

It is very effective for most women but you have to be exclusively breastfeeding more often than 6 hourly and the baby under 6 months.. I never had AF until my older ones were over a year old.. based on that experience I didn't think there was such a huge rush to prevent pregnancy this time.. Do you believe 1 statistic or your own experience of 8 previous children? Most people would trust their experience.. though I requested contraception in december and the GP refused!!! After this one measures will be taken.. I think I might just be getting long in the tooth and the hormones being flung about wildly lol
So it isn't entirely bunk.. it just doesn't work that way for some people. I got pregnant 4 times in 3 years on the minipill.. my sister has been on it years with no issue.. it is a case of finding what work best for the individual I guess.LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
Just to balance the scales - if you are not ready for the baby emotionally or financially then it may not be the time to have another. Please tink carefully before you make any decision.Emergency savings: 4600

This isn't true. You can't take the combined pill while breast-feeding, but the progesterone-only pill is fine, as is the implant.Mankysteve wrote: »but i would presume if you OH is breast feeding then she can't use any hormone forms of contraception.0 -
She does need to get checked out ASAP, the coil does increase the risk of an ectopic pregnancy
So glad now though I argued with the doc when she wanted to give me a copper coil instead of the mirena I wanted - she gave in, but said wouldn't take it out till at least September if I didn't like the side effects - so far no side effects (although this thread is making me think maybe I should do a pregnancy test)0 -
I got pregnant taking the pill and using condoms:eek: we were SO careful as well, I had a reminder on my phone when to take my pill as well! x
I'm a big believer in fate, things happen for a reason x:j:jOur gorgeous baby boy born 2nd May 2011 - 12 days overdue!!:j:j0 -

I wouldn't worry too much Claire, I've had the Mirena for the last 9 years, and no more babies! I had it fitted after the failure of the normal one, the doc at the time said it's the next best thing (other than abstinance of course
) to sterlisation. It's failure rate is extremely low by comparison. Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
