Dishwasher Recommendation Please?

Am looking for a new dishwasher, just fed up of our Hotpoint breaking down, then again with the same thing, its had five new displays & pcb's,
and the hassle of waiting in for the engineer at the two hour slot they say, Service contracts are ok, but i'd just like it to stay fixed!

Heard that Bosch & SMEG dishwashers are OK,
In fact, SMEG have a offer on at the mo till end of June, 5 years parts and labour, would work out cheaper than paying Hotpoint for there service contract,
Anyone with any thoughts our experiences of Bosch or SMEG dishwashers would be great please?

Have had 3 Bosch machines since 1985 (TBH, the first one said Hotpoint on it but it was a re-badged Bosch). The first died (eventually) of old age, the second I left behind when I moved house, the third is absolutely fine.

Never had a breakdown on any of them, I did replace the door seal on the first one and some tray rollers on one as well.

There isn't a great deal to go wrong, provided you just buy the basic model. The ones with 94 different programmes are not only pointless, but are asking for trouble :D:D
  • Thanks,
Agree about the basic model, think we've only used two profs on our Hotpoint, long as it's got time delay as well,
Big part of the pain is waiting for the engineer, for the same thing that failed before!

    Hi,

I wouldn't touch Smeg if I were you. The very rough rule when it comes to domestic appliances is buy German and you won't go far wrong. Generally German manufacturers are far better than Italian when it comes to appliances.

If you can afford it Miele is the best when it comes to dishwashers, if not then Bosch.

  • Thanks for that CK,
Those are getting to be my thoughts as well, a White goods dealer recently told me SMEG are good brand, seen their retro fridges, didn't know much about them, bit surprised to find they are Italian, expected german, Quite a few people have said Bosch dishwashers are quite good, Miele are prob best, but it's the risk of putting up that much money up front, think I'm prob going with Bosch, Hotpoint keep replacing parts in this one, that fail within a year! The engineers seem happy to do that, seems a regular thing to them, you just get fed up to the back teeth trying to get them to come when you're in!

I woud probably add Siemens to the mix .

Having said that we have never had a dishwasher but SWMBO is starting to rebel. We have just gone for a Hotpoint cheapy via the kitchen manufacturer for our new build. Might upgrade to a better make the next time round.
  • I've just bought this one, had it a week now and it's great. Quick wash takes 28 minutes, haven't needed to use any of the other programmes yet.

Previously had a Zanussi which died on me after 6 years, very happy with that machine but thought I would go for a Bosch this time.

    28 Minutes?
You don't have many currys then! Lol
But, yes thanks for that, I'd actually seen the same thing from the same place!
    Great minds eh?
    Good firm to deal with?

There was a Siemens in the posh holiday home we rented earlier this year.

I now know how it achieved an A rating. It didn't attempt to dry any of the crockery!

Our 14 year old inbuilt Servis was better.

We are in a similar position as you OP. I suspect we will get a Bosch.

Just to chip in and add to what CK said about SMEG.

Yes, they are an Italian company, BUT they no longer manufacture in Italy, everything is produced in Turkey now.
