Because of all the refusals im reading about where people (like the o.p) are clearly in need of dla but they are turning them down. Also my dd's problems are mental/emotional not so much physical and she has 2 sides to her character and at the moment school are seeing the nice side of it so when dla contact the school I wouldnt be suprised if they say dd is fine (despite her truanting, shop lifting and constantly ringing me re her disruptive behaviour).

I can see why you are worried and also why you feel you will be turned down!

    Not sure why you think DLA will help you, and why you think she is eligable though to be honest, not being judgemental, as I know nothing of you, or the problems relating to your Daughter, but, to get DLA, you should meet certain needs;

To get the care component of Disability Living Allowance (DLA), your disability must be severe enough for you to either:
    • need help with things such as washing, dressing, eating, getting to and using the toilet, or communicating your needs
    • need supervision to avoid you putting yourself or others in substantial danger
    • need someone with you when you are on dialysis
    • be unable to prepare a cooked main meal for yourself (if you have the ingredients), if you are aged 16 or over

To get the mobility component of Disability Living Allowance, your disability must be severe enough for you to have any of the following walking difficulties, even when wearing or using an aid or equipment you normally use:
    • because of a physical disability, you are unable or virtually unable to walk without severe discomfort, or at risk of endangering your life or causing deterioration in your health by making the effort to walk
    • you have no feet or legs
    • you are assessed to be both 100 per cent disabled because of loss of eyesight and not less than 80 per cent disabled because of deafness and you need someone with you when you are out of doors
    • you are severely mentally impaired with severe behavioural problems and qualify for the highest rate of care component
    • you need guidance or supervision most of the time from another person when walking out of doors in unfamiliar places

Under which of these rules do you think you need help?
Opinions are like bottoms - We all have one, just some stink more than others

Service Attributable Pension - War Pension - War Pensioners Unemployability Supplement - War Pensioners Invalidity Allowance - War Pensioners Comforts Allowance - War Pensioners Mobility Allowance - War Pensioners Child Allowance - Housing Benefit - Council Tax Benefit

These days they'd say you had ADHD and medicate you.
thats the scary bit how many kids are dopped up to fit "normal" behaviour when a few dosses of disapline would do the job

I do wonder sometimes how DLA is awarded when there probably isn't any way that money could help with the persons needs and that is sometimes the case.

To satisfy dla for a child they must need more supervision than most children of their age....my dd deffo does. Does not see danger....my dd deffo doesnt. Has emotional/behavioural problems...my dd deffo does. I need help getting her to school and back as she is due the same time as my younger children and i have to drop them off early and leave them in the playground which isn't nice if its raining. there is a disability bus for children with behaviour probs that picks up outside my house but have to be on dla to be considered. Would also use dla to replace all the things she breaks, respite care that sort of thing.

dd has also suffered abuse at the hands of her father and believe me her problems go way beyond normal teenage bad behaviour

o/p in my opinion the reason people are getting turned down is because there are alot of claims like the other in this thread,

If there weren't big issues with it being diagnosed wrongly then there wouldn't be any reason for the difference in the numbers of children who have it from poorer or less stable homes than those from more affluent families.

I'm not saying that's always the case but it certainly is in many. Schools like the label because it gives them more money too.

but she behaves in school ? youre words!
so she is doing it when she chooses to not when the voices tell her?
she is running circles around you and she knows just like i did...i feel so sorry for what i did to my mum...in time she will too..
she knows what she is doing because she chooses the times to do it

So are you suggesting I should deal with my dd that very well may have a mental illness and has suffered abuse by disaplining her? Unreal!

Teabag i would recommend the use of the ignore button. No one can be arrogant enough to think a suggestion of a dose of discipline is superior to the diagnoses and conclusions of the myriad of medical health professionals that have seen your child. Your being trolled and its not enough subtle don't waste your time.
