It's not late - there is no deadline as such. I haven't even sown my entry for tallest - I'm waiting for it to warm up a bit. :shhh:If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0

Argh my first casualty! I planted 4 out in various spots to maximise my potential (:D) and I forgot to put a copper collar round one of the stems and a slug/snail ate it clean through!
I wouldn't mind (well I do) but the little **** didn't even bother eating the rest of the plant! The cheek!0

No slug invasion here yet (though wh knows what will happen!) I'm reporting back that mine still in a seed tray and cramped are growing much taller than those planted out.
I went back wth a compass to check the orientation of those really tall ones and I'm right, they are north facing. Past a spot where there were soe other tall ones last year (south facing) but they seem to be in shade all day because of other planting. Yet my seed tray is west facing with south sun too and the ones out are east and some south sun.....0

Hmmm interesting. I have 2 north facing (both in the ground) and I found a spot south west facing and south east facing. Decided to keep my south facing spots (and big pots) for the more serious veg growing as I am limited on space.
My north facing ones are the tallest at the moment so maybe there is something in it......?0
