Can I join in too? I've two wee ones, one of which has its "face" out already way ahead of the other one!0

Actually, more disappointed than relieved. I wanted to beat you fair and square! :rotfl:
Plenty of time to sow more - I still haven't sown my entry for the tallest, but I have some others on the go.If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -

Aaarrrrgggg a weekend away and my friend didn't water my plants - currently trying to revive some very sad looking sunflowers!0

Re small destructive toddler - I didn't yell at her or anything, I told her off firmly and just fumed inwardly. Since the few she didn't manage to mangle have now come through and are shooting skywards she is now VERY interested and as soon as we come downstairs each day she goes straight to the kitchen counter and strains to see the windowsill and asks, "Have the flowers got bigger? Are they at the sky yet?"
Rather worryingly, the 40 (!) seeds I put in a propagator on the windowsill have ALL but one come through!! Along with the other 12 (including the 3 originals), this is going to be a LOT of sunflowers assuming they all survive! So, the answer is... the main York B&Q, I'll let you all know the date!! :rotfl:
xSealed Pot 5 number 15440 -
Mine n the seed tray are now about five times the size of those planted out. I know I need to move them on, but not sure where too. I think I'll pot them on and put them back where they are for a while rather than plant them out.
I also went away for a couple of days.0 -

According to the man at the bus stop, from whom I've gleaned all of my sunflower growing knowledge, sunflowers planted in the ground expend their energy developing root systems during their first few weeks, while ones planted in pots grow upwards. He said that the ground planted ones will end up being taller because of their more extensive root systems.
Of course, he could have been an overly competitive fellow MSE sunflower grower trying to string me along, it might be best to trust no one.0 -
These are only little 'uns - the red ones I think.
I'll address the matter of the giant one soon.If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
