Scented Candles
Comments
-
I don't usually buy my own scented candles as the budget doesn't stretch, but I'm tempted to try the Morrisons ones just to see what they're like, I've had some as presents in the past but they've all been a bit of a let down, having said that I treated myself to a Vanilla one in a glass from Asda the other week cost £1 and it smells lovely, but not enough to do the whole of the downstairs, which is what I really want
, who knows, maybe Father Christmas will leave me a Yankee candle in my Stocking - hmmmmmmmm well, you never know

This is what they look like
Basically they look like a candle but have no wick. You put it in the top of an oil burner with a tea light underneath and the wax melts giving off the scent.“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0 -
idiot question I know but do you put the tea-light in the burner and then the tart on top?
Oh no I know the tea-light goes in the bottom and the tart on the top, got it now, sorry, must take a lie down to see if I can find my brain!! xx0 -
Love this thread
Slightly off topic, but I want to buy my friend a candle making kit for Christmas as I know she'd like to create her own candles. The question is, should I buy an expensive 'kit', or could I create my own version of a kit for her, with colourings, wax, and a 'how to make candles' book? Does anyone else make them at home?Previous debt: £14K :embarasse Debt free: Sept '03MFW#42 Mortgage OP savings £4271.18/£12000 2019

If it's the smell you're after, I prefer to just buy scented oil. A couple of drops in an oil burner (or even in a glass of water and left on a radiator - though possibly not if you have small children). I bought loads for £1 each in the Body Shop in January and I still have them now - they last ages. One to look out for in the sales!Only when the last tree has died and the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realise that we cannot eat money.0

Oooh, and if you want to make it really cheap - use vanilla essence. Does the same job but much cheaper.Only when the last tree has died and the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realise that we cannot eat money.0

PMSL, hope people dont start fires by putting these tarts in the wrong place lol. Yes, the tart sits on the top of the burner where you would normally put the water and oil, and the tealight goes inside the burner. I thought there would be too much melted wax and it would spill over, but it doesnt in the burner I have anyway.“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0 -
Would all essential oils be fine to make your own candles with? Dont want to set the house alite!
I`m not exactly creative but I`d love to have a go at doing my own.
Anyone else made them?
Candles are so much nicer than spray air fresheners apart from when you blow them out, then you get that horrible plume of smoke which stinks.
Is there anyway to put them out without all that smoke which infects the gorgeous smells?Debt Free Date:10/09/2007 :j :money:0 -

Lick your forefinger and thumb and pinch the wick
Also keep the wick trimmed to about 1/2 inch to avoid smoking."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -
cheap oil burners in poundland, massive wells in hem so you can get plenty of wax in them
Homebargains do a candle making kit MushyPeas, in quite a snazzy box i think it's about £6 or £7 so would be fine for a prezzie.
