  • Yankee and Woodwick (love the way they crackle!) are personal favs, but I wait to get them as gifts as they're so pricey.

I keep my eye on the Glade small scented canles in the supermarkets...every now and then they are half price and I stock up. They last a nice long time, smell lovely and strong (lots of fragrance choices too, but my fav is the cinnamon one)...and they're only a couple of pounds when you catch them on offer! :)

How do people manage to use the whole candle if it's in a jar and impossible to trim?

I had a lovely one this year, where the last third was wasted as I couldn't light it,

Complain and then scoop out the wax and put it in an oil burner like a wax tart.

Buy some spare wicks (£1 for 10 on ebay) and scoop out the wax to form a new candle. If it's too hard you could try melting it in a pan of water gently until it softens.

The 'For Every Body' candles are just like yankee but cheaper. You can buy them in TK Maxx and they're made of soy.

How do you use these lamps? I have seen them in the shops and love the look of them but there were no instructions on how to light and use them - thanks

You fill the "lamp" one third full of the fragrance oil. Immerse the wick and then light the "stone" at the top. Leave this to flame for just a couple of minutes, then blow out and the stone keeps warm and releases the smell from the oil. They really do work and keep scenting the room until you put the snuffer cap back on. Even then the scent lingers in the air for a while afterwards. The only drawback is the price of the fragrance oil!!! I try to ration myself with mine!
