I love scented candles, but like the majority, hate vanilla or other sweet scented ones. I find them sickly and fake smelling, even the expensive ones. And they give me a headache. I generally avoid anything that smells of food, as would not really want my bedroom or sitting room to smell of cake anyway!

I like clean scented florals or 'green' smelling things....rain, cut grass, white flowers. I also like the ones that just smell of clean soap but more so. As these are harder to find i also will occasionally use citrus scents (orange, grapeftuits or even ornage blossom and bergamot), but find in candles these tend to the sickly, whipch is a shame, so opt for oil burners for them where the smell is cleaner and less.....sweet.

I will almost always light a candle while i am in the bath, so i can turn the light off and relax in the softer light, and a few times a week in the bedroom, any time i am lingering there while awake. In the kitchen only after i have cooked something stinky (i look out for discounted prices cooks candles) and the living areas before any anned visitors.....we live in an old, damp house with carpets that smell of farmer....so anything that helps me combat that is employed! All our guests know we live in a wreck but i really like to soften the impact on them!

I generally hate artificial scents and a lot of them make me sneeze.

These candles are made near me at Waddington in a farm and they are divine. They use so much essential oil in them that they scent the room beautifully even when not lit.

I love smelly candles especially Yankee ones but I find burning essential oils much more cost effective. I got a bottle of mandarin oil on the reduced shelf in boots for a pound and it has lasted for ages. You just need an oil burner (I got one for a few quid) and some tealights.

I like Yankee wax tarts - they last ages and will leave them burning until it becomes too much! I like the cotton and baby powder ones. I also like oil burners and love Bergamot and othe essential oils in them.

I don't like the fruit ones at all.

I want to try Jo Malone, but I am so picky it would be a terrible waste if I didn't like them!

I can't stand scented candles or air fresheners/incense/oil burners or anything like that - they make me feel ill. Certain flowers have the same effect, too, especially lilies. It can make visiting certain friends' houses very uncomfortable :o

I seem to be the odd one out................

I love 'em, but refuse to pay the prices for the top quality ones, even if they do smell fantastic. (Someone at work was talking about the price of the Jo Malone ones the other day -:eek::eek:!) I got some colour changing ones earlier in the year, which are quite fun (on special offer, of course :money:) but otherwise use Ik*ea tealights - I've got a pack of red berries ones at the moment, which smell like summer pudding to me. :) As they're only cheap I'll happily leave them burning until I remember to blow them out, or until they go out themselves because they've run out of wax.

Usually I like anything fruity (including citrus), green or clean scented - I don't like anything too sweet and particularly not cake-scented ones - if I want my flat to smell like cake, I'll make a cake. (And then I can eat it, too, which is an added bonus. ;))
Back after a very long break!

I love scented candles and I make my own. I'm lucky in that a friend runs a bar and they use large votive candles on almost every flat surface so she gives me all of the candle-ends so I can melt them down.

I'm with lostinrates: I am not fond of anything which smells like food, most especially vanilla or coconut and I also have an oil-diffuser thingy and incense sticks which friends bring back from India for me in largish quantities.

If I've got something nice and smelly around here I use it all the time. At the moment I've got sandalwood incense on the go. Delicious
