If you want rooms to smell nice but not overpowering instead of candles try "Lidl" plug in room freshners. They obviously don't create the same atmosphere as a candle but my house smells lovely. No more stale cooking smells !!

Another vote for the ikea vanilla ones. For a quid you really cant go wrong. they are ever so faintly "fake" smelling, but it does work.

I love cinamon candles mmm mmm but Ive never found any decent at the price I can afford. Im certainly not in the running for any candle over a quid LOL I expect a bag for that.

I do however burn oils for scent, usually something from the bodyshop who I find are very good at a budget price. ( less thatn 3.00 i think)
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

T K MAxx often have the expensive Yankee Candle types on offer.... I still can't bring myself to fork out £15-20 for a candle though - however big...I've got no real complaints over the 'glade' candles that my local £1 shop sells...Except I can't ever bring myself to throw away the empty glasses!

I Usually burn a plain candle and a stick of incense (I like Nag Champa best- I buy that in indian supermarkets to get is as cheap as possible) all DD's friends say our house smells like Camden LOL!

    Regards

Candles from "The Pier" are also really good and they go on sale regularly so I stock up then. Means my cupboard in the living room smells wonderful too - I have been known to open and close the door a couple of times to waft the scent into the rest of the room <G>

I tend to buy a couple of the larger block ones which burn down and leave a ring - you can then chop that up put it in a mold or jar with a wick in and pour plain or melted smelly wax over the top - thus reducing the waste. But I've told my kids they can only burn the tea lights which burn for hours and smell lovely.

I buy Colony Candles direct from the factory once a year and stock up (I can spend on average £50 a time in there so I only go once and then I save up for it :rotfl: ) http://www.colony.com/index.cfm and I've never had a problem with them. Personally I love the fact that they do the candles in different sizes with matching essential oils and inscense sticks ;) I think I'm going to have to dig my oil burners out soon as I have an Almond scented one that smells just like marzipan and to me means the start of Christmas

    Right guys :hello:

Here are my tips for a lovely smelling house using your candles. :j

    1) firstly check that your candles are decent smelling ones, most of the time as people have already said the manufacturers just 'dip' them in scent, what they haven't said is that if they are coloured candles they also do the same for the colour, my tip is to scratch the side of the candle if you can with your finger nail, it should be the same colour, if they have been 'dipped' it will be white under the scratch

    2) Get yourself a bag of cheap tea lights

    3) Get yourself a cheap oil burner with quite a deep well for the water / oil

    4) Cut up your candles into small portions and place them into your oil burner

    5) place tea light in oil burner and let it melt the wax.

The smell is AMAZING i don't quite know how it works and what thedifference is to just burning them but i do this all of the time now and so do my friends after i told them and they have said the same thing.

After you have burned the wax you can either:

    1) top it up with some more and re-burn OR

    2) Wait until the wax is cold and then just 'pop' the wax out of the oil well and replace with some other smell, i've got a little bag full of different smells now. :T

Oh and the smell lasts a lot longer as well when you re-burn them IYKWIM

I'm pretty sure that Colonial Candles (Colony) and Partylite are the same company - owned by Blythe Industries. Also both have their factory in Cumbria - I can't see there being two candle factories in Cumbria. Does anyone know if it has a factory shop? Even though as a Partylite consultant I get a very generous discount I'm always on the lookout for a bargain!!!

I can confirm that I once bought a Colony candle (I think it was Colony...either that or Yankee) and it had the Partylite "cccc" sticker on the side - Colonial Candles of Cape Cod. So I would think that if they're not the same company, they have the same 'parent company',if you see what I mean!
