See if any of your friends/relatives have PartyLite candle parties. Like Anne Summers but candles.

I was sceptical at first,as they seemed pricey. The holders etc ARE pricey but the actual candles are reasonably priced (12 votices for £7). they burn for a LONG atime and they have about 40 scents. At Christmas I was burning Powdered Sugar (smelt like I was cooking Danish pastries), Green Apple and Pear and perisimmon.

I am not fond of fruity sweet ones but my friend (who has the parties) is nad there are delish fruit salsa, strawberry, mango etc ones. Search for them on ebay people often sell them there.

I like the tarts from yankee. much more economical. you need a wee oil burner type thing and some of the wee votive candles but you get the smell for much longer.

Ikea do some nice candles. like the vanilla one...but some of them are not so nice.

Yankee candles are great, I'd go for them every time.

If you want your candle to be very strong smelling though I'd ask for some recommendations re:fragrances because I've found with them that sometimes the ones that smell very strongly in the shop don't smell that strong when you burn them, which can be a dissapointment.

"Cleaned cotton" is gorgeous, only had the candle tart in this but it was lovely. Holiday Sage is another strong one, its a Christmas fragrance so probably not available all year round.

Another one for the clean cotton Yankee....mmmm. I have a car air freshener in that, and the sachets, and the tarts. :)

    I can highly recommend www.somethingforthewickend.com
Have used this site for absolutely years, and always buy my stuff from them, but usually get a load at a time to get free p&p.

They have some great fragranced candles. For something different have a look at this page http://www.somethingforthewickend.co.uk/acatalog/Candle_Shop_Online_Novelty_Candles_3.html

I have bought the Lovers' Candle and some of the gothic ones as gifts in the past......they smell wonderful, but are far too pretty to burn.
Their candle sand is really nice and fragrant, and comes in loads of different scents. I prefer vanilla and ocean kind of flavours, but they have fruity ones too. Have bought gel candles too and they have been good.

(No I am not on commission, wish I was!) :D

I bought Colonial candles (Two £4 pillar, Cinnamon & Ginger) for Christmas. The scent was pleasant (some seem to smell more like Toilet Duck), long lasting, and the candles burned for hours through all of the December evenings.

I saved the wax that melted off, melted it down, and used some wicks I bought from a car boot sale last summer (50p for 5 wicks and 5 sheets of beeswax), and remade two more candles in yoghurt pots. These too are burning well, and have retained the perfume. I'm also still saving burned off wax, at this stage, I couldn't tell you how much extra burning time I'm going to get, but I'm quite happy that my initial £8 outlay is giving value.

    Wow, thanks for the replies.

I have only just seen the replies after I went to TKMaxx though and I have already bought 2 candles. One was £5 and the other £4.99. Not lit either of them yet though the Pina Colada one smells good enough to eat! The other one I got is a vanilla scented one.
They are made by different companies in the USA. The Pina Colada one is 16oz and on their website they sell it for $17.95 so I'm very pleased so far.

I'll let you guys know what they are like when I have burned them for a bit.

Thanks again to you all and especially to SarahLouise for recommending that I try TKMaxx.:)
