I enjoy using Yankee candles but to reduce costs, will it be ok to buy the samplers and cut them up to use like tarts? They work out cheaper than the tarts but I was a bit worried as they have a wick and are supposed to be used as candles.

I've done this when I couldn't get the tarts in the scent I wanted, and it does work, I just cut them and took out the wick. To me they don't smell quite as strong as the tarts but I've got different scents in the samplers and the tarts so maybe that's why - still a nice strong smell though.

If you want cheap but nice - I quite like the Ikea vanilla ones at £1 each.

I second this. At a quid each they are cheap and they really do retain their scent. I've not tried other 'flaovours' but the vanilla ones are great. To be fair, they may not be quite as good at the £29 one, but I'm not convinced the £29 ones are 29 times better :rotfl:

I absolutely love Yankee candles, swear by them. they also make a great present to take to someones house if they don't drink or eats chocs. My favourites are clean cotton, lilac blossom, tulip and brown sugar spice, the smell just seems to linger without being intrusive.

I'm not sure if it has been mentioned on this thread already but you could order some Yankee candle tarts from https://www.thecandlegirls.co.uk
They are 89p each with free delivery so I think that is a good deal.
I ordered some and they came within a few day but I haven't tried them out yet as I have 3 half candles that I want to use up first. I'm a bit obsessed with candles at the moment!:o

Another vote for The Piers candles - my son bought me one for Xmas this year and it still smells gorgeous.:D (think they're expensive tho)

  • Another vote for Yankee Candles. Boundary Mills store sell them at a much reduced price (at least the one at Shiremoor does). Well worth a visit. Also I've found the Salt Lake candles very good (I found them at TK Maxx, they are an American make made by a firm in Salt Lake City). The perfume seems to last well.

Just to echo what WiseOldBird has just said. I got a Salt City candle from TKMaxx which had a really good scent. Lasted me ages. It can be so hit and miss in TKMaxx though, my local one anyway. Some of them smell awful in the shop.

i am burning a for every body candle that i got in tk maxx for £6.99 at the moment. It is the 2nd one i have had from that make and they are fantastic.

They only seem to do quite sweet smells (which i love!!) in tk maxx though my current one is apple pie flavour yum yum!!! and i have got a vanilla and sweet cinnamon one to try next.

at £6.99 they are a bargain as they are massive (25oz), the same size as the very large yankee candle jar and they burn for hours and hours (approx 180-200).

Don't know if anyone is interested in making rather than buying, but I make my own container candles for myself, friends and family. It does require a little initial investment for the equipment, but after that the wax, scent and wicks are cheap as chips. The candles are much stronger and longer lasting than ANY shop bought, even the most expensive ones! Plus you can choose from a huge range of fragrances or use essential oils. I use soy wax which burns much cleaner and longer than the parraffin wax used in the majority of shop bought candles. Supplies are readily available online, just google 'candle making supplies'. You will also find that once you start making, you have a ready supply of friends and family wanting to buy your candles!
