    Hi

I've merged this thread with another recent one on buying scented candles as it helps to keep all the suggestions together.

Following a suggestion earlier in this thread, I have been melting down all my not so strong smelling candles and burning them in a tart burner and this works really well - much more intense scent than by just burning the original candle. However, I have found it difficult to get the wax out of the burner ( tried freezing it as per the instructions, no joy, and ended up pouring the melted wax out - and it is much easier to get it all over the work surface than into a container! ) Then I stumbled across a solution which worked brilliantly - I just put bits of candle into the foil cases mince pies came in ( I know not very old style but they are half price at the moment ) and melted them in the cases. When you blow out the tealight and let the wax harden in the mince pie case, it is simple to lift the case off and keep the wax in it for the next time. It lets you change fragrances easily too. I also used the empty metal tins from the tealights to melt wax in but these are a bit small and don't hold so much wax, so didn't seem to give off as strong as scent.
  • I also love Yankee candles but only buy mine from my local garden centre at this time of the year as they are all half price!!

Freezing always works with the Yankee wax tarts, they literally slide off the top of the burner when frozen.

I also love yankee candles. I have got a pear and vanilla bean jar burning at the moment. It is gorgeous!
If you have a boundary mill store near you, they sell yankee at a reduced price, for example the large jars that are normally £16.49 are £11.54 and they have all the different size jars, samplers, tarts and all of the accessories in all of the flavours.
I went in two days ago, and they also had a sale on top of the normal reductions, i picked up a large classic jar for £7.99 instead of £15.99 and a medium classic jar for £6.50 instead of £12.99.:D

I bought a couple of pear fragranced jar candles from M&S in the sales - they're lit now & are quite nice - not very nice to look at tho' - bit of a mucky colour!
  • yankee candles hazelnut coffee, the best stink in the world.
  • I can't believe there are only 2 posts about M&S candles! I went to a friends last year at christmas and was bowled over by the wonderfully welcoming vanilla - when I asked her about it, she said she had burnt a vanilla candle from M&S for half an hour several hours before.

So I went straight (yes literally) to M&S and bought one - cost £7 for the larger one - in store they had pear and vanilla, but there are other varieties here ... I burnt it every day for about half an hour - lasted either the whole evening or two half hour lots for a whole day and made the whole house smell wonderful. Seemed expensive as the candle not that big, but lasted for months so much cheaper than others I had tried and burnt all night to no effect!

Found it didn't just smell wonderful but made the house a home :smileyhea

    BUY IT! :D

PS Didn't even like vanilla til I smelt this candle - absolute convert!

    PS no I don't work for M&S!
If you don't have anything nice (or constructive) to say... DON'T SAY IT!

I`m gunna have a look in M+S tomorrow for them. I suppose you could freeze them and make them last even longer, dunno if this has any affect on the smell, but works well with tea-lights.

I work at M&S so I have tried a few candles from there. I bought some of the vanilla tea lights they had and I just got my second nectarine and orange one as I'm really into the smell at the moment. The ones that are in the link above have a burn time of up to 100 hours.
As I work there they do work out cheaper than a lot of other places but I will get them from anywhere that is recommended to me.
I got a couple from TKMaxx the other day which cost me more than my M&S ones. I got a Pina Colada one from TKMaxx and I love the smell of it. I think it would be too sweet for most peoples tastes though.
