Yankee Candle or "Stinky Candle" as they are called at Chez MATH are the best IMO. I've found cheap smelly candles a disappointment and a false economy in the long run. You can make them last longer by scraping out the melted wax in the jar of the bottom of the votive glass once the wick has expired and then use your gleanings as you would a wax tart.

i have to agree with others about yankee candles, they are fab!

the big ones are expensive but they do small tealight sizes which are ideal to light for a short while to fragrance a room. they also do "tarts" which you melt on a oil burner.

they sell yankee candles on ebay!

  • I bought a load of yankee candle tarts to try and find my favourite - they are taking some going through. i put them in my oil burner and they last ages.

However I have a lavender candle from I think it is airwick at the moment which is lovely.

    Hi

I haven't brought myself yet, but have added to my favourites ready for pressies later in the year.
    Hope this helps

If there is an Ikea near you they do a lovely vanilla scented candle in a glass tumbler - its very delicate and I love having it burning. IIRC they are 99p each.

I've tried those and they are nice - clearly an artificial fragrance but an inoffensive one at that. Which I can't say for the Yankee Candle tarts - too strong and fake smelling for my taste.

I'm planning to do some research on making my own - I have plenty of essential oils, and I'd like to use real beeswax rather than some petroleum byproduct. Does anyone have info on soya wax?

Another vote for Yankee Candles here, love the Fresh Cotton one - really clean smelling.

Cant bear sweet ones myself. Another candle I have is the cooks one from Lakeland - does really seem to get rid of horrible kitchen smells.
