OS Monday 27th Nov 06

Hi, this is the Daily Thread for 27.6.06. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything OS and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an OS natter. The more the merrier!

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem, we’re a laid back bunch here so you won’t hear any complaints.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Good morning everyone - gosh it's early!! I have had another early morning rude awakening...I was planning on staying in bed and lying in the dark if this happened again but that is so boring so here I am!

It's a same old same old Monday for me...w*r* as normal - 10.00 am to 6.00 pm, then home for a bit of recreational cleaning (I don't have a telly). There was a horrible storm late last night/early this morning, which seems to have blown over now, but if it's calm and dry this evening I'll go for a 30 minute walk in the dark.

The battery in my watch went yesterday - the last time I got a new battery it was ridiculously expensive, about twelve quid or so, and for some reason they had to keep my watch overnight. My alternative plan is to buy a cheapo watch out of Argos - they have some respectable looking ones for about a tenner. That therefore is today's lunchtime mission. I'd send a note to Mr Claus requesting a "nice" watch, but he didn't get the letter I sent last year, nor the year before, nor the year before that, and nor in fact the year before that again.... I don't remember being naughty but I must have been...lol.

If I was going to compose a letter to the jolly man in red I would also ask for a new slow cooker. I have managed to destroy my second CookWorks version (that's the cheapie one out of Argos). Yet again the ceramic pot has developed lots of hairline cracks, and liquid is seeping out through the sides. That, IMHO, seems like a fire risk especially if the appliance is on all day long. It is very off-putting TBH, coupled with Catowen's experience of the lid on her's shattering all over the place. Catowen...can you tell us which particular model your's was please so that I don't go buying that! I think I'm going to have to buy a more expensive slow cooker - for me it's the absolute best and most convenient way of cooking, so I'm a bit stuck without it.

Have a fab Monday everyone.

Hi Snowyowl (and fellow cat lover - he is gorgeous)

What woke you? Have you got the thunder going on in Devon and South Wales:eek: In November too!

I am going to avoid seeing my son till tonight and have the confrontation. I am finding it hard to sleep as I am rehearsing how to approach it.

I shall be around later and do more packing.
    An average day in my life:hello: :eek::mad: :coffee::coffee::coffee::T :o :rotfl: :rotfl: :p :eek::mad: :beer:

Hi CCStar...good luck with your conversation with your son this evening. I hope that something constructive comes out of it and that everyone keeps their cool. Fingers crossed for you.

The big kitty in my avatar is my sweet Henry - unfortunately he died last year from kidney failure. He was so gorgeous and special, and I still miss him :cry:. I've two new kitties though - they are both very beautiful with big personalities too.

Off back to bed, if only to lie down and read a book. Bye!
  • morning all,

i am up trying to beat my insomnia playing syberia the pc game. bad news about your slow cooker snowy. i got one from aldi about 2 years ago and it's fab. we don't use it all the time, but it's handy when we do. i was thinking about getting a smaller one for when it's only the two of us and we are not making a bulk portion.

Day off today. I had the weekend off too, but day's off in the week are usefull as you can get those jobs done that you would not do on the weekend.

So I have a few phone calls to make, then service the car. I hope it's not going to rain again as I don't wish to get wet.

We have friends over for a meal tonight. So it should be a good day.

    Good morning all!!

Well it's dark and wet here, and I'm just off to the gym! How I hate that place.

Snowy, don't you find it total madness that it can be cheaper to buy a new watch rather than replace the battery!!! Do you know Mr Claus has been somewhat remiss with me the last couple of years, and I'm sure I haven't been any naughtier than most others!!

Well going to grab a quick coffee then I'm gone, back later hopefully.

  • Morning OSers :hello:

How did it get to be Monday again?

Been awake since 4.15, but read Ian Rankin until 6.00 so it wasn't a complete waste of time.

We had a packed weekend, but blimey it was wet and windy. DStepS1 has decided he's coming to us for Christmas. Apparently it's much more fun at our house than at home. I feel a bit sorry for his Mum though. Her Mum's just died, she's had a Big Row with her daughter and now No. 1 Son is deserting her for Christmas. And no, I'm not 'enlightened' enough to invite her for Christmas too :o:o We'll be busting out into the garden at this rate :D

We have one easy chair and duvet left if any of you guys are at a loose end over the holidays

Monday is double swimming - no clue where the swimming kit is. DD2 has decided she'd like to try hot dinners at school, but they need a weeks notice (with DD2's appetite I think they'll need more than a week to prepare) so this will be the last week for packed lunches. I'm all for kids having healthy hot dinners, but it cost £8.10 per week! Hells Donkeys, it cost 5 shillings (25p) per week when I started school (who said "yeah, but it was in 1914"? :p ).

DS1 has just reminded me that I haven't ironed any of his school uniform yet  How old do kids need to be before you can teach them to iron? My husband reckons it's 62!

Have a great day everyone (and remember to dodge all these exploding slow cookers  )
